    Default peltier driver

    anyone know where i can find a driver for peltier cooler or a schimatic (excuse spelling) i want to drive 4 mini 17w peltiers

    Are you planning a quadruple red?

    i got past the planning to build one, http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...ead.php?t=4688

    i want to put a mini peltier on top of each one rather than cool the main plate as thermal conductivity from the lasers to the plate is not very good due to havingti innsulate the lasers from ground to use robins drivers

    Badger, that's a great Avitar!

    I hooked up a small peltier to about 1.5V at 230mA and it cooled right down pretty quick... no driver, just DC. Now If you want feedback, it'll get slightly more complicated.

    Learned the hard way trying to stack three peltiers in series, dont place them across a PSU at their maximum ratings, use some sort of controlled current source, as in their performance curve the max ratings result in them backing off on their cooling and starting some self heating.

    Hey badger1666

    The TEC should work as an insulator as both sides of a TEC are ceramic, so you should just be able to mount the LD mount directly onto the TEC and mount the assembly to the plate, this would also give additional benifit of a larger surface to distribute heat.

    Which peltier elements did you get? I'm still in the `planning phase' of a double red. Got most of the parts though. But I didn't get past the 'peltier' planning stage So I'm looking forward to what you come up with!

    Anybody ever used the MAXIM 1978 IC? It looks good : http://www.maxim-ic.com/quick_view2.cfm/qv_pk/3527

    Single supply, +-3A output to the TEC, PID controller, monitoring outputs, all in one 48 pins package.

    I made a peltier controller some times ago for my dual Maxyz red, it was working but was not very stable, and heated a lot. Unfortunately it died some days ago, so I have to make a new one.
    But I can't find these MAXIM IC at a local electronic store... Maybe a group buy can be interesting? I think there's a min quantity to order at the web shop. It costs ~10$ for 1k units, we can certainly buy a lower quantity.

    They also have an evaluation kit, but I can't found any price.

    Also we can make an "open source" schematics with board layout, etc, so everybody here can use it...

    Maxim actually do free samples for a lot of there products, so you maybe able to get two samples for nothing.
