Hi all,

This whole thread is kinda sad on many fronts....

I'm with laserman532 on this one.

Just remember this is meeting place for "laser minds" and sharing of laser interests.

At the end of the day its no different to the porn channels on TV just don't select the channel if its not for you. You cant stop the porn kings from making the movies (yep including snuff movies and thats sick too) but you don't have to watch.

The producer of these shows hails from here (New Zealand) originally so its interesting to see his views.

Its a fact sadly, that there are many countries in the world affected by US policy. (even little NZ got "stood on" when we said no to nukes down here....strange really when you consider where Rutherford came from ..huh!) [google Rutherford if you don't know who he was]

What I have found, in stark contrast, on many visits to the USA over the years, is that these "foreign policies" do not fairly reflect the average American whom I have found without exception to be most friendly and welcoming.

So all the rights and wrongs aside can we all get back to lasers and why we are here......

Le's not let this whole thing destroy or stress laser relationships....

yes by going to ILPs website and watching the Flash animation of the show .... yes we have a choice .... i can decide to hit the off button if i find it offensive ..... as i said in my earlier post ... i watched it 4 times ... just to see if i could get another perspective on the show ... which i could not

Now the problem i have is ..... Say ....

im sitting in an theatre auditourium with my wife and two young children surrounded by other families waiting for the Laser show to start that i have paid good money to watch ....

cue ... DISCO INFERNO ....

i think after the first 20 seconds i would want to switch it off ....

BUT CAN I ? ...... NO

nor can all the other families around me .... we have no choice ... by the time we up and leave the show will be over ...

ok .... back to reality ... what planterium or laserium would buy this show for public screening ..... none that we would know ... hense my joke about having good equipment insurance ...

but hey ..... im sure there would be a few extremist festivals in the far lands that would love to project this sort of shit ....

as laserman remarked, we as laserists have always kept our shows pretty universal .... not involving politics, religion, or sex ( ok i have the porn frames also for my private viewing .... but i have not had a wank to them yet )

unfortunately this show crossed many lines of what we all thought was acceptable

For what it's worth, anybody pandering that sort of material most likely supports it. Otherwise, they would not be pandering it.

Only the really moderate ones, the real extreamists would chop the head off of whomever projected it as practicing stage magic and using graven images. Watch the PBS/BBC series on the brave film archivists who saved the Afghani national film archives by building false walls and tunnels to fool the Mullahs. I guess when your a back woods tribal type, blueprints are graven images and not your thing and they got away with it, barely.

The acceptable laser show in many Arab countries is mandala/abstract and beams, NO images. They love epicycloid abstracts, and even have names for many of the patterns

This is just the same thing as the cartoon drawing of mohammed in a danish newspaper.
Don't know how known this is in US.
But there was a simple joke and a cartoon drawing of mohammed in a newspaper. Just a funny cartoon.

Many offended people started attacking the Danish buildings in theire countries and burning there flags.

We are getting the same reactions here on a cartoon.

If I saw a cartoon of people falling from the tower with burn baby burn in the background that could be funny! If it was ment to be just a joke.

But I have not seen the show, and since its not ment as a funny cartoon maybe its more offending.

OK, #1 - sorry, but you're on your own with that warped viewpoint - loss of human life is NEVER 'funny' - if you think so, I think you have a problem, and should see a Doctor, ASAP - IMO

#2 - If you did not see the show, then why are you comparing it to the Danish cartoon and/or commenting on it here at all? Suggestion: do your 'homework' first, THEN you can open your mouth (well, keyboard...)

#3 - Terrorance is entitled to his opinions- no one, including me is challenging that - I can only speak for myself is saying that I took issue with him, for 'tricking' everyone into watching something highly offensive - and by that, I specifically am talking about the depictions of those deaths in such a callous, flippant way. Like I said before, what if those people that had jumped were his wife and daughter? What if they were your family members - would you be laughing? (rhetorical question - the answer is supposed to be: NO...) Then why should we - or anyone - 'jerk this guy off' by supporting his 'opinions' / 'political satire', by allowing him to post such garbage - especially on a site that MIGHT be seen by a potential Client, and further-tarnish an already struggling industry...NOT TO MENTION, how would the families of those in the towers / jumpers feel if they saw that trash??? In 'mentally-masturbating himself' by publishing that show - the way he did it - outside of his OWN computer, he TOTALLY disrepects those families, and those who lost their lives that day. He could have visualized his 'anti-bush-admin' opinions in a much, much, much more tactful way. But he didn't and he arrogantly supports his version, with that same 'Don't like it, don't watch it' attitude.

You know, if he had simply been honest about it, and said something like: 'Ok, this show expresses my personal opinions about who was really behind the 9/11 attacks, and displays highly-depictive scenes of the towers collapsing / people jumping, what really hit the Pentagon, etc, and the true motives behind the Iraq war, all in 3D Max' , I am sure the 'comments', here would have been limited to 'let's just hope this show doesn't make it into the hands of the families of those jumpers...' etc, etc - but the guy 'tricks' everyone (unaware of the content) into watching his crap by just calling it a 'show about the times we live in'...and then, he MOCKS everyone who did not bow down to him for it with his 'mushrooms living in a box / better off in the dark' clip...he just proves that he continues to be a shady creep, IMO.

#4 - Regardless of whether or not you - or anyone who may have seen that show - personally lost someone immediate to them that day - it affected everyone - everyone with any moral-sense of right and wrong and decency, that is... IMO, anyone who would MOCK those deaths the way he did is really just plain SICK. Put yourself in those families' shoes - NOTHING to 'joke' about...

#5 - It used to be here - but is has been removed - However, if you ask him, Terrorance will gleefully email you his pride and joy, there...I'd suggest, go do your homework, then come back and post. If you still think it's an OK / no big deal show, well again, I suggest you see your Doctor. (...unless he IS your Doctor...)
