    Default lexel laser

I just acquired a Lexel 95-SHG through a warehouse sale. Does any one know its value? It seems to be new and in the original box. It has a power supply and some other boxes with it. Any comments would be great!

95 SHG is a quite specialist piece of kit with a prism tuned ring cavity argon laser and a intracavity doubling crystal (laserman 532, its a lexel version of a coherent "FRED")
They are very, very expensive when new, but only worth something when the crystal is known to be good, the tube is known to be good and you have a rare scientific or industrial customer for it. Otherwise its worth maybe 350-500$ if the tube is good and someone wants a working 95 tube. Usually they are set to double 514 or 488 to 207 or 244 nm.
Finding a working tube is the hard part, and few people will buy the unit untested.

You might want to ask Brian at lexel if he wants to buy it back, but you still will only get a tiny fraction of the 40,000 or so it cost new. Also maybe holospectra or evergreen or DNA equipment might buy it if its complete with PSu and UV controller.

In short, not woth much unless you find a goose witha golden egg.

Few universities or industrial customers would ever be able to convince their purchasing department to buy a ebay used UV system

Thank you for the input. I will get to the warehouse early next week and shoot some photos for posting. I have been doing some research and am thinking of sending the system to Laser innovations in Santa Paula, CA. They told me they would do an evaluation for $250.00.

If you take it over to fremont and lexel , that eval would probably be free.

considering that if the power pigtail is still hooked up, and all then you need is 1-2 gallons per minute from a garden hose to test, and considering 250$ is one third of a possible 500-750$ used profit if the tube is dead and you hold out forever on finding a guy who is desperate for a lexel 3P supply., I hope you rethink that. If you do have it tested, attend the testing.

odds are your not gonna see megabucks out of a SHG unless it was brand new in the box, your doing a corporate to corporate sale, and its doing at least 75% of spec power. Besides Innovations mainly does coherent. You want holospectra or lexel.

And I would not let a person fire up a SHG unless they have WORKED on a LEXEL shg before.
There are some tricks to tuning the crystal etc.

Also you do not "send over" ion lasers, they have to be carefully transported AIR RIDE, usally in your personal car or truck.

Think 4 foot long fragile ceramic tube with two 6" fragile quartz stubs bonded on it. That doesnt get "tossed on a truck"

I wouldnt bother with the posting, everything is sealed up inside. unless there is a blatently obvious fault (rare with lexels)
we cant test it visually. If you ever want it to do UV again, leave it sealed till a pro gets it. Too many adjustments.

I have worked on one once, I know them fairly well.

you might send pics to sam for teh FAQ.

You have given me great advice. Laser Innovations is about 60 miles away and I would drive it there, but I am going to rethink that based upon your input. I will do some more research and take a good look at the laser to see how good it looks (cosmetically, only).
    Thank you for your reply!!!!

    Hi Kevin,
I have only just become aware of your questions regarding the Lexel SHG system.
I am more that happy to help you with an evaluation or to talk you through the operation of the system. If you would like to send me the serial numbers I can access our database and give you all of the operating wavelengths.
We purchase these older SHG Lasers and convert them into LEGACY (refurbished) systems. Once converted to our current design, we resell the LEGACY systems to the less well funded universities at very reduced prices. The LEGACY systems feature new plasma tubes, optics and Xtals. They go through our final test facility as though they were new products. Finally, they are given new covers and the LEGACY trade mark.
If you want to sell the unit please contact me and we can discuss a price.
    Brian.

Man... that extreme weather in Oregon plays havoc with your skin tone.
    Good to hear from you.
