    Default Opnext HL6385DG - 642nm 150mw 5.6mm diodes

Created this as the other thread wasn't in the GB forum, sorry

These "new kids on the block" diodes are one way to a bright, tight red laser beam, and seem to be what the bigger boys are using in their 637nm-640nm modules. A bit more info in this thread -
    http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...ead.php?t=5305

We need to get to 25 of these little beauties to make the £117.50/pcs price break.
Price includes taxes but not shipping which will be your choice of courier/service and will cost whatever it costs - nothing added, nothing taken away

    The story so far is:

    P1t8ull 2
    Dave 5
    Non PL 6
    Dr Lava 2
    FourDee 2
    Xytrell 2
    Mike Hemlock 1
    MechEng3 1

    = 21

    Any other takers?

I would rather get a few of these....HL6388MG .... didn't see a stripe width...these guys boast a 250mw in CW. Let me know when this is to go down. I will want one. I will investigate this further......OK I see the divergence is horrid as usual on the 250mw unit. The one you have here is easily tamed!

I am trying to get some more information about the diode, and have contacted Photonics. They haven“t replied yet. I may want to buy one diode, but I am a bit short on cash too at the moment. Two weeks from now it will work.

Yeah, the HL6388MG's are multimode with a 1x20um emitting area and 10x40degs of divergence, so will take some work to get them tight.

These HL6385DG's produce DVD diode sized beams, that's why the manu's they are using them in the new generation of reds we're seeing on the market now.

Wes, best to drop Photonic a line to find out, their web shop is quite limited and expensive...

if money were the only resource i was short on,i would go for it,but my knowledge re:diodes@drivers etc... is also in short supply.
    hmmm,my time is short too.

i'll wait and hope that these become the users choice, and hop on the next order if there is one.
i'll be watching and am looking forward to pics of this little red demon.

    thanks pit.
    peace,
    w
