    Chris
    According to the chart I have pinned the wall next to my desk (Medialas source) the visibility of the 2 wavelengths is as follows

    660nm =0.061
    642nm =0.159
    (555nm =1.000)

    so on this basis 642 is 2.6 times as visible, so 100mw of 642nm =260mw of 660nm or 300mW of 642nm = 780mW of 660nm

    Which makes the answer to your question YES!

    If you need to ask the question 'whats so good about a laser' - you won't understand the answer.

    Default 642nm

    i did a few more tweaks to the five diode red and its now just under 750mw and thats only pushing the diodes to 300ma now the 642 idea is looking very expensive for the few extra mw that i would get
    then again i supose i could overdrive the 642's a little bit
    it a difficult choice when i should be saving for a blue laser
    and buying some scanners
    dam i wish this was not happening so close to christmas then i would say fcuk it and go for it
    i think i will have to give the gb a miss and hope theres another soon
    unless i can find some more stuff to sell on ebay

    Hi Martin

    Just got a new PC a few weeks ago and im "over the moon" with it

    so i will gladly reccomend it

    it was a brand new bare bones system ( no keyb mouse or monitor )

    but had a Intel 2.4g Quad core proceesor ( 9.6 Ghz )
    4gig of ram
    500 gig sata Hard drive
    Litescribe DVD writer
    groovy light up case and PSU
    Downside was onboard grafix ( but has a PCI express slot for grfx card )
    but they do a 1gb pci card version

    and the best bit £175 ready built and tested

    link here ... EBAY PC from G4-technologies

    delivered 2 days later ... great quality unit and could not find it cheaper seperately

    OK Mr. hi-Jacker..
    I put an OEM (LG) DVD-RAM burner in my pc so I can use it with the DVD recorders downstairs by the TVs, but it came with no program disc (being oem, of course-D'OH)-where was my brain that day? What do you use with your new Litescribe DVD writer? Or- do you know of any good cheap DVD burning downloadable programs?
    (now back to the diodes,, maybe)
    Thanx,
    -S
