    Default Thanx

Actually, after looking at some of the other posts for absrtacts, I think I may use James's idea of using a synth. I am going to try using Reason for sine wave generation. The cool thing about reason (for those who have never used it) you can have unlimited synths. Once I get around to modding my sound card, I'll post pics. Thanks guys

I'm using my Serge modular synthesizer but I think a Nord Micro-modular would be great too, you could save and sequence the graphics without using a computer and it is a very small machine so it's easy to bring along.

    Default Reason

    Keeper,

I am going to use Reason. It is music creation software by Propellerhead. I think they are up to version 4.0 now. It is a virtual synth rack. This may also suit you guys if you do your own music for your shows too. IF anyone remembers seeing a Jarre concert, those rack of synths and samplers he has, that is kind of what this does except it is all emulated. Very cool stuff. Kinda spendy though, but then, so are lasers!

    Check it out: http://www.propellerheads.se/products/reason/

im not sure how to use it well tho... I have no clue what you guys are doing but im very interested...

im missing the the concept here...

i understand that wave == shape but then im lost..

    Default sine

Oh, I see. Basically, taking the sine wave generation to make abstracts, the spyrograph looking images. You could use a polyphonic synth to generate a sine wave to for each axis. The cool thing though, you can use the LFOs for oscillation of different aspects of the wave form. Distortion, amplitude... this will vary your image a lot, giving you an infinite selection of abstract patterns. I would basically just be using Reason for the Subtractor polyphonic syth. Since I am going to use a modded sound card, the audio output will be play directly into my scanners and I could modify the sound being played in real time using Reason.

Just be careful to take it easy on the scanners.

    Check out GoldWAVE!

    http://goldwave.com/

This has been around for quite a while. It was the first thing I used to make waves for laser.

    It has an expression evaluator.

I can't tell you how COOL this is!

You can write an arithmetic expression for the left and right channels, in terms of sine, cosine, sample, time, value of another wave sample, etc, etc, etc...

It couldn't be MORE suited for laser math art!

Another nice thing about it is that if you stick to truly periodic functions, you don't even need to DC modify your sound card!

    James.
