    Default laser power supplys

i am thinking of driving all of my lasers from one larger supply
instead of having three supplys i want to use a single 5v 30amp to drive all three and save space in a already clutterd case
question is will it be safe to do so and will this cause any problems with any of the lasers?
    hope somone knows the answer

I have 3 lasever lasers in my projector and they are all run off of a 5V 20A supply. The supply is overkill, however it still takes up less space than the 3 original supplies. I don't see how it could cause a problem, prior to me using the single supply I had problems with the 3 not wanting to work properly together, then when I switched to the single supply the problems went away.

I like using Jameco for electronic parts and supplies. They've changed thier web site a bit recently and its a bit harder to find supplies in my opinion. If you just place 1 order they start sending you catalogs all the time, which is nice! The supply I use is a Meanwell.

I currently run 3 Laserwave lasers (200mw Green, 250mW Blue & 400mW Red) of one 5V 30A supply (cosel brand) and it runs fine

    Keeps the clutter down

Just gotta watch how you do the cabling as you might end up drawing high current DC through it, I'm using proper heavy duty DC cabling (stuff made for battery chargers, solar panels) from the power supply to a distrubution point where the lasers connect and it gets warm

    Default one supply Vs three

This will work fine and reduce size, weight and "clutter". The only downside is if the supply should fail you will have NO light and...it could cook all three of your lasers at the same time; that would supremely suck. Make sure the one you choose is reliable and reated for the total current with a saftey margin. Phil 142laser

What about fitting a heavy "crowbar" Zener with a fuse in each feeder cable to each laser.
If the voltage exceeds say 5.2volts it blows the fuses.

Then should the power supply go ape and go overvoltage at least your lasers stand a chance of survival ..
    Just an idea ..
