    Hi Things;

    Yeah, some fonts just don't look good when they're small. The details of the font get mashed together and it just looks ugly. (Serif fonts are really bad.)

    I actually use a lot of singe-line fonts when I do projected text. The one time I used a "filled" font was when I was putting the "Why" graphics show together. The text "Why" that zooms out over the starfield looked better in the outline font than in just a single-line font. But I had to use the "optimize blanking points" feature in LD-2000 a couple times to get rid of the tails in the frames.

    In general, I've found that simple fonts work better.

    I have found that if you use some simple fonts, they arent optimized for the scanners. There is a really blocky font there, but since it doesnt have extra points on the tips, it comes out as a complete mess. TImes new roman shows up OK because it has stuff at the top of each letter I guess...

    Excellent points, Things. Though I will say that a little hand-editing can work wonders with an otherwise ugly font ILDA object.

    Pangolin comes with a bunch of laser-optimized fonts (like 25 I think) that all look really good. I've used them a couple times and been quite pleased with them. But in general, letters have sharp corners. And sharp corners are a pain in the ass for scanners!
