    Default FB3 DMX enclosure question

I've got the fb3 eval with DMX, and I want to make use of the DMX. This might seem obvious to some but...
Should I use just one DMX connector, if so which one, the male or the female? Or should I use both and wire them together as in daisy chain.

    Has anyone done this?

I'm sure I saw a post with it somewhere and a pic but I cant find it.
    Thanks all.

Depends if the DMX controller can have a DMX input. I know it would have an output, but i'm not sure why it would need an input. If it doesnt have an input, you only need a female (I believe) connection on the FB3.

You allways want a DMX through connector for daisy chaining more fixtures on the link.. i have never seen a dmx fixture that only had dmx in, and no through.. if dmx through is not used, the general rule is to connect a 120 ohm termination resistor to the through plug.

So you want both a male and a female dmx connector, just linked together pin2pin.. if you want 3 or 5 pin xlr connectors is another discussion, to which there are probably much stronger oppinions :-)

I have never heard of anyone chaining the dmx link back to the controller though..

You might want to take a look at Pangolin's DMX page:

    Good info!

Yeh, but usually the DMX controller is the first thing in the DMX chain. Oh wait, sorry, I was thinking wrong,my DMX controller can have a DMX in, and I can read it on my computer. A daisy chain is different.

    Cheers fellas.

    From the Pango site
A DMX output connector is always female, and a DMX input connector is always male.
I'll put the wires coming from the FB3 to the female connector then.

And I guess there is no point in putting the male one in because the fb3 is a controller, not a light.

    Thanks for the info.

The FB3 must be seen as a "fixture". So, it has an input and a throughput (output) to daisy-chain to the next fixture. The FB3 is an laser-ILDA-controller controlled by DMX, it's not a DMX controller!

You need a DMX controller to control fixtures like movingheads, LASERS (with built-in FB3), dimmers, etcetera.

Not too impressed with what I came up with but it's (believe it or not) way way better than my last attempt.

I left out the DMX for now as I don't have a controller. Think i might get another box and try to make a neater box anyway.

Are you ready for the monstrous scare face of a box?

As you can see I'm not to hot with a dremal, which kind of has a mind of it's own.
