Hopefully the Tantrum Queen will turn up at the next meet and attempt this to all the forum members present, face to face.
The results of that would definitely be worth adding to the DVD.

    Default ildaswap FTP server

    Hi dudes!

I had a look at the FTP server logs today. There have been people on the FTP server that have deleted alot of files! This is very sad!

Now, I have added access rights to the server that files that is uploaded cant be deleted. If you want a file/folder deleted or renamed, please send me an email or PM me in here and I will fix it.

Also 1 connection pr IP is allowed!

Everything you do in the FTP server is logged!

    Again, thanks for sharing!

it shows there is/are some real sad sad people on PL

Can it be if someone drags and drops window to window files get moved and so DELETED?
In that case i could be a mistake.

Don't you logs show IP numbers?
maybe you can trace the user and find out if its a mistake or done purposely.

    HOPEFULLY -

It was a case where someone meant to "copy" several files, but inadvertently "moved" them instead, effectively deleting them from the FTP site in the process! I saw that more than once back in my days as a network systems administrator, and can see how it could happen if someone was accessing the FTP site from a web browser, instead of dedicated FTP client software.

I'd hate to think that anyone using this site or either of the FTP share sites would carry enough of a grudge to intentionally take it out on everybody like that...

Also, I have seen you project a generally negative attitude, not only towards me lately, but towards others. Most notably Buffo, but also more recently keeperx.

James, when we met at SELEM, I thought you were a generally alright dude. Even shortly after SELEM, we exchanged some nice words, and even seemed to look forward to working together in some way some day. Is the sudden change in attitude really all about Format 3? Geez!

    Best regards,

    William Benner
The thing with keeperx was supposed to be funny. I guess not everyone gets my sense of humor. I bet he does. He talks to me on the phone quite a bit and we get along very well.

It's not all just about format 3. It's really about the fact that the only standard way to move laser art around from one platform to another is an unresolved, mess. It's not so hard to move vector information, but color is totally messed up. Color is a HUGE part of the art.

Look at it like this: I've been the only coder on LaserBoy for about 5 years now. It's not really a project for me. It's a part of me.

I find it very frustrating that no one can get the kind of utility out of LaserBoy that is really in there because of the limitations of the color data exchange in what is supposed to be an open world standard format.

When I try to work with other people using LaserBoy, we can't get five minutes into it before THIS becomes a show-stopping-issue. For real!

I have nothing against you or anyone else.

I just want the ILDA file format to REALLY make sense and WORK for EVERYONE!

It sucks when politics and egos get in the way of rational thinking. I have come to the realization that there are probably many, many reasons why the ILDA format is the way it is.

Sometimes I feel like I'm yelling at the fire for burning down my house. Rather pointless, I guess.

Can we just get over all that crap and see it for pure computer science and math?

    James.

PS. I am a generally alright dude. And so is everyone else I've ever met through lasers. Actually you're all MORE than generally alright.

James (and anyone else interested in discussions concerning "Format 3" or other file-level related topics) -

Why don't you start a separate thread to specifically discuss the subject? I believe SOME of the "tension" that arises on these threads comes from a subject, totally unrelated to the intent of the thread, sidetracking and often totally diverting the thread from the original discussion!

THIS thread, after all, is titled "New Pangolin Shows on the FTP Server", and the intent, I feel quite confident, is to inform users of Pangolin software and hardware of the availability of such shows, and to discuss the same. A similar approach has been used on this forum by users of the Mamba software / hardware, and probably by others, as well. Granted, I don't spend a lot of time on those threads, but I don't recall those particular products (or the company, the company President, users, etc.) getting verbally thrashed like the Pangolin "crowd" often does!! (Not saying that was the case with the most recent post, BTW!!)

We're all here for SIMILAR interests, but everything posted is not going to apply equally to everybody! Some folks are more into the "coding" aspect - that's cool! Some folks really like Laserboy and the approach it uses to create lasers graphics - that's cool too! Speaking as a VERY happy Pangolin user who is more interested in using the software and hardware capabilities it provides to create laser shows, I am VERY pleased with the options it provides me to create shows without requiring many hours of coding and frame creation by hand, but hey - that's cool, too!! No, it DOESN'T provide those same capabilities to folks who don't own the product, nor should it - it's a COMMERCIAL product that the owners pay for, and the Pangolin company shows its appreciation to its customers by providing these shows for its users.

Neither the Pangolin company or ANY of its product users are keeping the coders from coding, the Laserboy users from, well, "Laserboying" , or ANY other laser-related hobbiest / developer from pursuing their interests, sharing their shows, etc.! Bill has pointed out areas that were posted as "new" or "under development" that were, in fact, already researched by Pangolin, but that should be expected - after all, when a company of that stature, that has been in the professional laser applications development business as long as they have, participates as much as they do in what is otherwise a "hobbiests" forum, some "reinventing the wheel" commentary should be expected!!

There's room for everbody and all their ideas on this forum - we just need to keep the discussions in the threads where they belong, and try to minimize the discussions that basically wind up serving no purpose other than derailing the original thread intent!!

My 10 cents worth for the day ...
