    There are more coming.

I just sent the beam show by Adam Bourassa back to him to check it out. I made some minor modifications in terms of timing and also scan-ability. Likewise I did the same thing for some of the shows from Adam Burns (Buffo) as well. I suppose he will be posting them soon.

And, as a bonus, I will make arrangements to get the Lightspeed graphics show "We are all made of stars" up there too.

What I have left to work on is the Rupert shows. Basically I do safety checks on these, make sure they have the correct zone assignments, make sure they scan well at full size and at 30K and then will send them up. I have some of the shows completed, but not all of them...

In all I think that makes an additional 20 free shows available.

Thanks for taking the extra time to go through the shows and clean them up Bill! I know there were plenty of mistakes in mine. (Like, all the beams in the beamshow were incorrectly assigned to Zone 1, which is for graphics! D'oh!)

I'm kind of tied up at work for the next couple days, but I should have some time later this week to have a peek at the files.

Buffo, do you have a long-term scaleable plan for paying for the bandwidth that this takes? Consider that the cost of distribution of the shows that only work on certain commercial software could be subsidized by the software maker, as you are providing a service to them also.
While it might not be very much cost now, just trying to think ahead..

Now thats a fair thing to say....
I don't think it's publicly announced for ALL pango users to come and download the shows here.... hopefully more of a PL user thing.

The crutch FTP server is run by crutch, i don't know if he is running it from a homebased server on his own connection.
    who knows...

That server is going to "overload" if all LD2k system users are going to download 20 shows. in the next few days.

On the pango forum there are posts suggesting a pango runned pango based share server just like the PL ILDAswap server.
    Maybe it is comming?

From reading earlier posts about this on the Pangolin forums, I believe they do ultimately have a plan to set up a show hosting page from their site. Perhaps this is just a temporary way to go ahead and spur interest with shows that are currently available, especially since several of the shows are originals contributed by PL members!

The costs associated with running this forum have been discussed before, and many of us have contributed by clicking the green Donate link at the top of the web page. I think there's probably enough interest in sharing information, shows, etc. that even if this forum needed to turn into a "paid members only" forum because of operating costs, you would still find many - perhaps most - of us willingly participating!!

    Hi Doc;

Um... Maybe I should clarify something here. I'm *not* affiliated with Pangolin *or* PhotonLexicon in any capacity. So no, I do not have a long-term scalable plan, and even if I did, it would not be mine to implement. (Bill, on the other hand, does have a plan... See below.)

Having said that, both Spec and Cruch have stated (publically and to me in private messages as well) that they have more than enough bandwidth to support the FTP servers. Of course, if the volume of traffic continues to increase, at some point there *could* be a problem, but I have to trust both Cruch and Spec when they say that they are nowhere near that point yet.

Bill is working on a Pangolin "Laser Show Swap" page that will be hosted on Pangolin's server. He has mentioned it several times at various Laser Enthusiast's Meetings, and recently he has posted publically about it here on PL. However, the page is not finished yet, and he wanted to get these shows out to the community at large as soon as possible - thus the FTP server was the logical choice.

When Cruch set up his FTP server, he specifically designated a directory for Pangolin shows. There are no restrictions on who can upload to that directory, and to the best of my knowledge, Cruch didn't ask Pangolin for a donation just because he set the directory up.

He also created a directory for LDS shows, and one for Mamba Black shows. I see that there are quite a few shows for Mamaba in there, and Whiteg just added some more. I don't recall anyone asking Medialas to contribute to the FTP server fund either. (In fact, such a fund doesn't even exist for Cruch's server.)

I think you're missing the point behind these FTP servers. They are a place for people to share free material. To me, it doesn't matter if the show was created by a PL member and shared with the community, or purchased from a commercial laser show company by Pangolin and then released for free.

After all, it doesn't matter who created the show - it's only ever going to run on the hardware it was created on. And there's nothing stopping *all* Pangolin users from logging in to the FTP server to grab whatever free shows the PL members have already uploaded (including the 5 I've created.)

It has not been announced on the ILDA list yet. There are certainly some Pangolin users here on PL, and those lucky users will get access to the shows early. As for the rest of the Pangolin users, they will probably have to wait until the Pangolin show swap page is operational.

Bill has posted about this here on PL as well. It's something he's working on, but it's not done yet. Lots of work involved... (Remember, Bill checks each and every show for flaws that could harm the scanners, and also checks for logical consistency re: zone assignments and such, before any show is made available to the public.)

Well, a few of the shows are ones that I've created, yes. However, I believe that most people are more interested in grabbing the 3 winning shows from this year's Pangolin Laser Show contest. But yeah, I think Bill was basically doing the folks on PL a favor by giving us early access to the shows.

While I fully support the donate link (it's high time we started helping to foot the bill for everything Spec does for us), I would like to point out that Cruch's FTP server does not benefit from these donations. Perhaps Cruch would like to comment on what it costs him to maintain the FTP server he runs...

Well..I dont know what to say.
I had a server that was not in use...so why not use the server for the PL users.

The data that is transfered between the user and ftp, I need to pay to my ISP. I got 2000gb free traffic pr month, all over 2000gb I need to pay pr mb.
I think it is 0.07 usd pr mb. And there are alot of traffic on the FTP server Thats AWSOME!!

    So happy sharing

    Exclamation

What price would you guys put on these shows that Pangolin has kindly provided for free?
    100 bucks?
    200 bucks?

I was browsing through some of my bookmarked sites looking for shows and there's a site in Europe that is selling the Standing in Motion show on its own for 460 Euros.
    That's approx. $590 at today's exhange rate.

Once more, "Good on yer Billy mate!"
