    Default BLUE 473 through PBS

ok, this is a VERY rudimentary set up. i just never set a projector up with a PBS before and i wanted to mess around with combining 2 lasers.

do these readings seem right? it looks like there is quite a bit of loss through a PBS. now remember, NOTHING is locked down, perfectly aligned or anything.

all i have is a ~150mW blue beam entering from right. (shooting left)
~150mW blue beam entering from the bottom. (shooting up)

it seems as if i am losing about 15-20mW sometimes more through the PBS. is this normal? or is this simply because nothing is perfectly aimed (i do have the beams overlapping of course!)

also, the waste beam seems kind of bright. is this normal??

The polorisation of one of the lasers is making it so that one of them needs to be tilted a bit...rotate it on the beam's axis and see if the power level goes up. It can be either laser. Both could be the culprit. Check this first and we can go form there. I have a pair of 200mw units {one is 212 and one is 214}that are losing about 3-4mw...throughput of 427mw. You should have a very dim waste beam....1 or 2 mw.

    Hi Marc,
    This loss maybe:
    1) the degree of PBS you setting
    2) what Mike said reason
good job, Marc, you know how to combine 2 lasers to one, .
    Best regards!

you have <10% loss, that sounds very reasonable.
If it can be as low as <1%, IMO that is amazing!
    Wow.

I also noticed that while testing the polarization on my two 100mW modules that the polarization on one of them was just barely different than the other, just by a few degrees. I will try to slightly rotate one module when it goes into the projector, and will tweak things while testing on my LPM to get max power.

    MechEng3,
I had no idea the losses could be that low! That's impressive. What kind of pbs cube are you using?

    Hey, Marc -

Just wondered if you're still testing the Blue through a PBS, and how it's working out.

Still thinking about my blue upgrade options....
