O.K., i'll stick my neck out here and say that for general beams ~1watt of white light (balanced RGB) should be reasonably good and cover most eventualities.

As for a single colour, it depends on what colour you're talking about, assuming green (532nm), I would say probably around 300 to 500mW would be sufficient.

Of course, these guesses all depend on how much ambient light there is in the room and how much haze/fog is present. If you're competing with a disco with lots of mega lights you can double or treble the figures above

2W works well with lights/screens and light to med haze. Hell we have it going fine with sunlight streaming through the doors when testing/setup prior to night shows.

30m venue would be no issue for 1-2W

if not many other light used the same time.
500mW series with overpower is enough.
