Hey guys, my first laser

It does look like a mode issue. It looks like the laser went tem01 and the second beam is grazing the side of the aperture.

It could have happened in shipment... crystal set moved a tiny bit maybe. Either way, like everyone else said, I would definitely get a replacement.

I would defenatly contact them and ask for a replacement, That is clearly miss aligned or as the other guy said. Dropped from the truck. :P

I'm less shocked by the beam quality then by lunch box as a case.

I agree with the mode hopping assessment. As soon as I saw the picture of the aperture... it made sense. You also said that it flickers and goes dim... have you watched the aperture as it does that? It should bounce around in there as it is doing that... I'd send this back for a replacement.

If you are having a new laser sent out what are you to do with the one you have? do you have to return it?
