There's a cop who moonlights at our local Stop & Rob here in the hood where I go to get my 40s at night.

Obviously, I reek of laser geekdom, so he showed me his laser and asked me if it could be modded to get rid of the IR filter so that it would have a much better night vision signature.

Tell him you would have to do a citizens arrest for wielding an illegal pointer that would be dangerous...

Honestly - I would make sure he understands the dangers of what he wants to do. But it is his pointer.... or you could just tell him to go online and buy a cheap one from ebay or something and it probably doesnt have an IR filter anyway.

He knows it is a blinding weapon. He is a police officer. He is trained in its use and is allowed to have it. It is clipped to a gun, afterall!

yeah, my thoughts exactly... IF he has one of those 'rail-mounted greenies', like HERE, depending on which model of gun he has, he might still be able to have an inline-one, like HERE, but in pure IR... (notice the advertised 'IR-option'...)

I don't think just knocking off the IR filter would get the results he was after anyway, cause I doubt you get that much IR thru a DPSS green anyway - certainly not as much as a properly-collimated, direct-output IR diode... an 'IR-leaky' module would prolly only result in a quazi-beam-ish kinda-mess...

Lasermax is in my old stompin grounds, Rottenchester but they are really nice folks - went down there years ago when they were first starting-out, just to check out some of the diode-modules that I, then, did not have the bux to explore... was sort of a 'meet-n-greet-n-spy' trip.. I'm sure they could propose a dual-solution for him - you'd prolly be his 'BFF' if you hooked him up with the 411 on them...and we all know having a 'BFF-Cop' can be reeaaal helpful sometimes...
