    Default Need some major help!

Hi everyone! I am looking to see if anyone knows a US based company that can do crystal cutting and polishing of laser mediums, specifically Alexandrite and CTH:YAG? I need to have several crystals cut and polished.

    Thanks,
    Ben Steigerwald

Talk to Dick Anderson of Anderson Lasers - (216) 990-0563 - he and/or his son, Ron, can get you hooked-up (they don't do it, but should be able to point you in the right direction...)

If you know of any glass studios (flame work) alot of them have lapidary wheels but not as nice a jewelers wheels with programmable precision angle heads. Another choice would be to ask a jeweler in your area (a real one not a mall jeweler). Faceting takes a long time by hand and any slight movement can screw us your facet, you need to have a set of diamond wheels, and work down to using cotton + cerium oxide (it is also a big mess). I faceted a bunch of glass beads a few years ago, it is a lot of work to get it back to optical quality!

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.
