    Default Current advice

I'm about to buy some open can diodes from a LG 20x burner.
I believe these are the long-die type open cans.

I've seen people use these in pointers with currents of aroud 450mA (!)
Of course I'm not interested in pointers

I'm curious what is a good current for these diode to run safely and have a long life if a projector setup.

    Anyone?

i have also just purchased 6x open can red diodes.

have done a small bit of testing in the past.

im hoping to run these at 250mw in a scanner

What current do you think is safe?
I'd be happy with 200mW per diode if that meant improved reliabilty

Define long life. I just had an 18x diode die on me after ~200h of use at 365mA. If you want >1000h of lifetime you should run it at the current that gives it its rated CW power, but expect it be 200 mW or less then.

That's also something i was wondering about. I've never been able to find a datasheet for the open can diodes, so i don't know what CW powers are. 200mW would definately be ok for me, I've got a PBS to join 2 together for 400mW with a tight beam.
