    Default DIY Diode housings

    Hi there,

Yesterday I received two Rohm diodes from the_docter and now I want to make a housing for it. This is what I came up with. I attached a few pictures from the model I made. If anyone is interested I can upload my Solidworks files or technical drawings?

I hope you guys have some tips on how to improve this model.

    Nice rendering!
Do you really need such a big housing? I think it will be fine if you cut the metal in half, that way you won´t need such a long "barrel" and save some material too.
Also, the focusing may be difficult since you have a set screw and no threaded lens.

why not just use a aixiz module?

It is sometimes hard to get good heat tranfer and to mount it properly and also the diode has to be pressed in, I think it is better to mount it so that the diode can be removed/rotated if the need arises.

And I made a "tribute" (bad copy!)

    Default My ugly mount.

This was my first try using a chuck of aluminum I had around. This is way too big to mount and the set screw is too long. If you can find hex bolts without heads your set screw can be recessed or flush. I highly recommend using a drill press, I will next time. I do like the idea of a plate to hold the diode, but the aixiz modules do work well for their price.

It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

What lens is it your using in the second build, is it an aixiz glass ? It kinda looks like the number 27 from here http://www.roithner-laser.com/Optics-LD.htm

It is an aixiz 3 element glass lens that sits on the bench, the lens inside the module is an aixiz uncoated acrylic lens since I have a BluRay diode in there.
The Aixiz glass lens is propably a copy of the Roithner one!

Hmmm do you really think it's too big? I thought it was rather small actually I'll attach a tech drawing with the main dimensions to give you an idea.

I thought about tapping some threads into the hole and tube. But I don't know if it is possible to cut threads on the outside of the tube since there is only 1 mm of material to cut the thread into.

hmmm ok, which dimension should I cut down? And won't this take away too much of the modules ability to cool the diode?
