    Default cigars?

    any cigar enthusiasts here??

    i recently just tried a few "higher end" (i suppose) cigars. not too bad!! any suggestions for a sweeter tasting cigar? possibly even a flavor type?

    i just bought a few different types of baccarats (sp?) i think. pretty decent little new hobby of mine for a once every few week guys card game night!

    suggestions? preferences? i think i will be more of a "lighter" tasting type. not a harsh taste.

    Cool

    If you like a mild smoke, try a Macanudo Portofino. It's a smaller ring size, plus they're mild to begin with. They were the one's in the white tubes that I had at SELEM 2008.

    Retail on them is around 9 bucks, but if you shop around you can find them for as little as $6 each. If you're willing to buy a box of 25, check out JRCigars in NC. They have the best prices I've ever found, and they ship anywhere. (A box of 25 Portifino's costs like $92 there! That's less than $4 each!)

    If you want something with a little more body, I recommend you try an Ashton. They're pretty pricey (up to $20 retail for a Churchill), but again, shop around and you'll save some money.

    Every once in a while I'm looking for something with a lot of body, and in that case I go for a Cohiba. They're not quite as expensive as an Ashton, but they're close. They've got a darker wrapper (Maduro), but they're not as strong as you'd expect. Damn good smoke.

    I've only paid over $1.50 a piece once or twice! Is a $20 cigar 20 times better than a $1 cigar? If it's not, I don't know if I can justify buying one.

    I personally like a Cohiba Siglo II.
    It is 129mm long and is a Ring 42.
    It is a cigar with mild creamy sweetness, medium bean flavours and also a medium tobacco taste. I find it very smooth and has a good draw from the first light.

    Don't get to smoke these much anymore they are just short of 250 GBP for 25 or about 12 GBP for a single if you can get one. They charge about 20-25 GBP per single in higher priced hotels for these.

    Marc;

    Haha! I haven't been to a titty bar in probably 15 years or more. But back in my Navy days.....

    Xytrell;

    I have to admit that a $20 cigar is a bit steep. But a good Churchill will last over an hour too, so it's all in how you look at it. Also, once you find a particular cigar that you really like, you can save a lot of money by purchasing them in full boxes of 25. Of course, you'll need a humidor to keep them in, but those aren't very expensive.

    If you're buying cigars at the gas station convenience store, you're really missing out. See if there is a cigar shop near you. Go in and talk to the owner (don't bother with the kid at the cash register unless he's got a cigar burning somewhere). Ask him for a recommendation. Start with something in the $6-$10 range.

    Also, here's a good rule of thumb: If you like mild cigars, avoid the ones with dark (Maduro) wrappers for now. They tend to be stronger. Also, a longer cigar will be smoother - at least until you smoke it down to less than 1/2 its original length. For example, a "robusto" is a short, fat cigar that doesn't last nearly as long as a Churchill, but it also gives you a stronger smoke right from the start, since the smoke is filtered through less tobacco because of the shorter length.

    And Andre, I have to admit that nothing beats a good Cohiba in my book. I've actually had the Cuban Cohibas (on cruise ships), and they are among the best cigars I've ever had.

    Yeah, but glycol fog doesn't taste quite the same as a good cigar!

    Actually, I don't smoke them in the house. Only out on the back porch or deck. And I haven't had one in quite a while. It's one of those things that you have to be in the mood for. Sit down with a nice drink and relax.
