    Default RGB Laser storage Q's

    Hello my friends,

I have purchased a 1 watt RGB projector from laser world. It is hard for me to store it in my house so I have been keeping it in the garage in its road case. The road case is padded with foam all the way round however it does not have any kind of gasket seal for the lid. This leads me to believe with the cold perhaps a little condensation could be occuring (maybe) on the projector. I live in Oregon if that helps.

My question is do in your opinions is my laser ok to be stored in the garage in a road case? Or is that not enough. Should it be inside all the time.

    Thanks so much!

as funny as keeper's answer is (, it WAS funny! lol...) on a more serious note-

i would advise against it. cold, and humidity and weather extremes are not the best things in the world for the delicateness (if thats even a real word?) of laser systems.

youll probably start seeing misaligned optics very rapidly. (expansion and condensing from hot to cold). humidity and condensation building up on optics. and probably start seeing rust VERY rapidly.

its not going to get ruined after a week or anything of course, but you really should keep it in room temp. areas.

I have a spot in my room that I can put it for you. I promise never to neglect it and will use it only for a couple of hours a day.

First thing I would do is to go and find some large packets of silica gel, this will absorb any moister that gets into the case.

Temperature changes are something to consider but as it’s in a road case that should provide insulation (as long as it’s closed up) however I would still try and find a location that has a stable temperature.

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

store it in a case with silica dessicant and a pressure release on the case.
    Bake the dessicant frequently.
