Would you say the 8020 stuff is heavy? I think that for it's size/strength/workability, it's really very light. My case weighed close to nothing until I slapped that big beast of a plate into it... it now does pull a couple muscles to lift it Makes me wonder if using a plate that thick was truly a smart idea...

So, a quick update here... I ended up getting 1/2 the drilling/tapping done over the weekend, and the only real 'undone' piece so far is the scanners... gotta get the DT40's soon

By tonight, the rest of the drilling/tapping/mounting should be done, and then the optical mounting starts... will update on all that with pictures once I get it done

What sort of price do the 80/20 bits sell for? I know there are loads of different lengths and types etc, but just an idea of price would be great.
Daedal, do you mind me asking roughly how much it has cost to put your case together (just on parts).

Also, how many mm thick is the large plate?

    Default 8020

Dan you can check out 8020's website and they have a ebay store as well. Since your across the pond you may also want to consider Bosch for your extrusion needs. TSlots is another company i use from time to time. I have used them all and I prefer 8020, partially due to there customer support. And there AutoQuote software is kinda cool for the larger jobs. They also do kits so you only buy what you need and all the machine work is completed by them. I don't use it cuz of the cost but it's a nice feature. Just Google aluminum extrusion and you should get a few hits. Good luck

He listed it as .5 inches in his post above, so that's 12.5 mm.

Probably a bit thicker than he needed, but at least it won't flex! His projector should be rock-solid stable.

Mo - I can't wait to see this thing in action at FLEM. (Either on the 21st, the 28th, or BOTH!) Note: I'll also have my projector with it's newly-fitted color correction board!

Ya... I suppose... but here's a hint as to why there is no major progress yet...

It's 6:45PM on a Friday... and I'm still at work now (been here since 7AM)...

Hopefully this weekend will be a good one... hopefully!

As one of my more devout co-workers would say, I will put you on the prayer list.
