Don't know if this is of any use to anyone but I found a site selling diodes at these wavelengths:

    Re Diodes 635 & 639 & 640 & 642

Top power is 150mw but given that at 642 I think thats approx 400mw equivalent to 660nm I thought it might be of interest.

I've been on that site before. But do you not need to e-mail them for prices, which suggests that the diodes are EXTREMELY expensive ? Could still be worth a try though.

    Hi Adam,

I'm thinking of perhaps getting a price on a 10mw 635 for myself. I'm interested in making a projector that's safe to audience scan with from very short distances so I'm quite interested in low powers. I'm hoping that with 635 I might get away with something as low as 10mw 635, 10 or 20mw 532, 20mw 473 and still get a nice visible rgb. I know even thats 40-50mw but I do have the lenses which hopefully once I've got beam width and divergence figures will give something safe from a couple of metres. My main concern is of course power vs visibility.

I haven't decided anything yet though. I'm quite tempted though to assemble a 10mw 635 just to fire it through smoke and test its visibility.

    Prices are here BTW: https://www.shop-photonic-products.com/shop/home.php

Aixiz sells such a diode (a complete regulated module in fact) for $33.50 shipped here.

Please note that actual output power will depend on your OEM application between 5.5 and 8mW.

Needs looking into but interesting as cheaper option.

I don't suppose anyone has tried modulating their analogue lasers down to 40-50mw total (10 635,10/20 532/ 20 473) and has it on video?
