Default Project Stuka - The "Jolly Green Poly Slab"

    DISCLAIMER -

This is NOT, nor is it meant to be, an audience-safe projector - no shutter, kill switch, etc....in fact, there's NO CASE, and the Poly 20 wheel is uses DOES have some interesting but unwanted secondary beams !
This was strictly a Friday-night thrown together "quickie" to find out if it could be done, with one audience member in attendance during the actual use of the beast - me!

The "Jolly Green Poly Slab" consists of my 1 watt LaserWave 532nm "Jolly Green" laser, three small bounce mirrors, the Poly-20 wheel attached to a model airplane servo, 2 small DMX boards to control the servo positioning and laser modulation, required power supplies, and some poster board to act as "beam masks" (), all attached (wood screws, zip ties, and duct tape!) to a spare 12" x 24" shelf "slab" - hence the name!

I control it using the DMX capabilities of my Pangolin QM2000.NET, which works QUITE well once you spend a little time with the DMX frame system - plus, the QM_DMX console that is "hidden" in the LD2000 directory can be used like a software-based DMX console!

Conceptially, it helped me prove a few things:

    1. A 1 watt laser shooting through sectors of a Poly-20 wheel looks REALLY cool in haze-filled garage!

    2. The Poly-20 servo solution actually works- reliably & repeatedly!
I feel a "Star Wars" show mod in the future!

    3. If you're using a Poly-20 wheel, you'd better have plenty of box around it to catch the stray beams!

Anyway, here's a few photos of the "experiment", shot in my garage with my ColorSplash Jr LED DMX lights adding some color. (click image to see full-size picture).
More in the gallery if anyone is interested...

    Yeah, it was cool...

All you need is a neon sign out front:

"Stukey's Garage: No cover charge, 5 drink minimum"

"Can you hammer a six inch spike through a board with your penis?"

    "Not right now..."

"A girl's gotta have her standards...."

Awesome movie. Real Genius belongs in every laser enthusiast's DVD library.

You stumped me on that last one, Steve...

But yeah, Real Genius is an all-time classic. I could watch it over and over. (In fact, I already have!)
