    Default Broken galvo?

As I reassembled and tested my projector today I noticed the worrying smell of burnt electronics. After pulling the power cord I localized the problem to the galvo block, which was very hot. Further testing concluded that something is funky with the x-axis galvo. Connecting this galvo to either of the amps causes it to heat up very rapidly, whereas the y-axis galvo can be connected to either amp and still run cool.

I'm using laserworld 45K scanners. They have been working fine to this and normally run very cool. Is the x-axis galvo borked now? Any hints on possible fixes?

Some more info on the galvo:
Grounding the X-inputs or leaving them floating leaves the galvo centered without any vibrations and it does not heat up. It can still scan graphics OK, but as it heats up the graphics get distorted. The galvo uses optical position detection.

Does anyone know how much a new galvo costs?

Sorry to hear that, Tocket... Yeah, it seems you are the latest in a fairly long line of people that has purchased LaserWorld equipment only to discover that it isn't nearly as good as they claim.

On the plus side, LaserWorld gear has always been fairly inexpensive, so perhaps a replacement galvo won't be all that costly to buy. But then again, the other galvo may fail at any time...

If this is your first failure, it might be worth it to replace the bad galvo and go from there. But if you've had other problems, maybe now is the time to consider upgrading your scanners. Your call...
