    Default Projector build gallery

As some of you already know I have been blessed with the task of building a projector for the lord of the Avatar, Soforene. The build is drawing to a close with the projector now complete appart from it being dressed in it protective case. This will be finished and fitted this week and so Richard will soon have something to play all those LD2000 shows on

A breif description of the machine is....

DT40 Pro scanners, laser-wave lasers and optics - 532nm @ 200mW, 473nm @ 150mW and 650nm @ 400mW. The optics are GB & RGB dichros so the green will be at the back followed by red then blue. The footprint of the case will be 300mm wide by 400mm deep with a height of 150mm. The central 8mm base plate will take the optics and scanners up top with the wiring and drivers etc all below. The case will have 4 parts to it (no pictures yet but they will follow in the week). There will be 2 side panels that for the large part will remain in place and the top and bottom will form overlapping 'L' shapes, the bottom will have a cooling fan in and its 'L' will form the front, the top will be plain and the 'L' will form the rear panel with cutouts for the connectors and switches to poke through. There will be intergrated attachment points for a hanger to allow the projector to be slung from a gantry and the laser will exit from the centre of the short side (300mm end) of the housing.
The plan has been to use the build to develop a few ideas and shortly some of the parts will be available to buy through Laser-wave UK, and the case will be available as a bare case or as a complete projector with single or multi coloured options. The case will also upscale for higher power units during the coming months.

To break the tradtion of dumping all the images in the thread (which is wrong but I am very guilty of it) I have created a gallery of some images taken so far. More will be added this week as the case arrives and is fitted up.

Richard will be beside himself with excitement... Pass him that box of tissues

Looks like a lot of care and attention has gone into that, i'm looking forward to the unveiling next weekend.

P.S. Thanks for the names and I think the idea's great

There'll be no living with Soforene now!!

AWESOME build, Rob - and your all-in-one interface board looks great!!

Congrats on a fine building job, and to Soforene for being the one to snag it!!

Thanks Anthony (and Jem and Randy ) - now you know why Ive been a little busy of late
The ring is a bezel for the camera UV filter which provides the laser output window. The front panel will have a 49mm hole in it which the threaded part of the filter will drop into. The ally ring will be screwed to the front panel from the inside to hold the filter in place. Its neat solid and easy to remove should you need to.

    How dare you !!

This projector is a work of art and as such this thread will be sacrosanct.
To sully this thread with Boobies, surely such Boobies would have to be regarded as works of art themselves.

    Oh alright then ......

Now the cats out of the bag I think it can be officially confirmed that no one is looking forward to UKLEM4 more than me.

Rob, that looks Yummie! Can you tell us a little more about the control board you have made (and the color signal correction circuit, if you are wiling to share that) ?

Looks like a great case, too bad I need 350x400, but the pics are inspirational!

    Lucky Soforene!

    Zoof

The board is not a finished item as yet there is still some work to do on a couple of extras but for the time being it has all the loops in place for inetrlocking inc a start up timer so only when the keyswitch, ilda connector to DAC and e-stop are on does the timer begin. After 15 seconds it will power up the lasers and light the emission light which shows the lasers are armed and ready . If any of these drop out power is cut from the lasers. As an addition there is an aux. output to drive a shutter which will also react to the timer and interlock functions. The board will provide power for a fan and will have aux power out if needed for any other bits the user may choose to add. The outputs are RGB on one connector and XYZ on another so if used with a single colour you only need to use one connector for the laser and XY signals. Obviously there is an ilda pass thru on it and the basic colour correction circuit - this may develop a little more as time goes on but it seems to work nice as is. The physical layout of the board size and the positions of the connectors will remain fixed so once the board is finished in development the theory is that the latest version will pop straight into Richards projector without trouble - should we decide to go this route.
As I have said in other threads on the subject, once I have added a couple of other stages to this board I will re-lay it all in SMD and get some built. There will be a few mods made to ensure it fits in with the US requirements as well as UK fropm where it stands currently.
