    Question 3+ watt Melles

I don't know about this...but it may be a good thing if one used a CC to get it. May be totally bogus.....he does offer a 3 day right of inspection.

    Yeah,

I think its a scam. These pictures are the same from a previous ebay auction from last year. I've seen those same pics used in a few bogus auctions now. Ask the guy for some different pics and see if he responds back...

First off, the model number he listed is not valid. The R indicates it was sent back to Melles Griot for service. The ending number 305 indicates it is a 2.5 watt model, not the 3 watt that is claimed.

I saw this earlier today. Not sure if I would try to sell a 3 watter as my first eBay sale.

he said its' diode was replaced which very well could mean it is putting out over 3W as indicated. the 2.5W models can be easily modified for >5W of output. OSLS is doing this quite often with pretty decent results.

my 2.5 is avging about 18 watts. it could be modified for 3.5-4W and greater also. the mods are about $1500-$2500. i think for over 5W the cost is about $3k-$4k.

in my opinion DEFINITELY not worth it for a melles unit though. they are about as stable as the san andreas fault.

You are correct, however, the fact that he says it is a 3W laser seems kinda deceptive. Also, the fact that the laser is not a valid part number also seems to be a problem...

I'm old school man... I watch, bid and hit confim, all with the mouse. It is against my "religion" to use programs to win eBay auctions. Wher is the fun and excitement in that... the adrenalin high...
