I will point out that Google has publicly refused to release certain user data to the government on some occasions, but one could say those where just moves in a grand chess game of deceit.

I really appreciate Google and it's products (namely Gmail). If Google turned out to be Big Brother, it would really make me lose that last little shred of hope I have for humanity.

just the fact that they limited, restricted, censored information or searches in china during the olympics and still do today means they can be controlled by governments even if they are wrong. So it is only a step or two until it happens globally.
