    Talking Old Skool

I thought I would post this mainly for the benefit of our "Colonial" friends, but also to enlighten the youngsters here. Back in the day when you did shows with "real lasers" (like a 60lb ALC68 with an 80lb power supply, just to get 1 watt of green). You also needed a real "manly" laser controller. Something with loads of knobs and switches. Gentlemen, may I present the PM19.

This venerable Tour de Force of laser controlers, was state of the art (in 1985) and will probably still give most modern controllers a good run for their money. Having the 3 separate waveform generators and oscilators available as potentiometers, with the ability to "mix" between them allows precise and delicate manipulation of incredible effects in real time.

This desk could control 2 sets of scanners. There are options for lissajous effects, (simple) graphics, text and beams. There are selectors for 4 different colours and 4 effects gratings. It also features LED illuminated buttons!!

Each of the "keyboard" buttons could be programmed with an individual effect. There are also memories for 6 audio activated chase sequences. This is a real "hands on" desk of the highest order.

    Cool

Here's another golden oldie. Anyone remember MWK Industries?

This was one of their old-school lissajous boxes. Sold for something like $500 back in the mid 1990's. It ran a pair of steppers that might have been capable of 4K speeds on a good day. But when it's all you've got, you make the most of it! (and yeah, it still works!)
