cant you just cut the power to the QM as well by wiring the DC power thru the switch?

It seems no matter what design i come up with a PS is always needed
for emission indicators, interlock indicators, actuators along with a relay/delay or two
You may want to talk to Bill and see if you can get the digital data to kill the QM.NET and have it send a packet to it? Maybe a close shutter packet which triggers a relay to kill? You could sniff the ethernet traffic using "wireshark" and then reproduce the packets but that really complicates things... Sorry if I am off track!

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

agreed the packet would have to be read and understood to work..
i was thinking about a seperate DC power loop that would run along the Ethernet cable for the QM..

What you do is, you send a stream of packets which are required to keep the shutter open. If one doesn't arrive when it should, you close the shutter.
This type of safety system is commonly used in industrial control, and is what I have implemented between my laser and my control booth- if there's no signal positively maintaining communication, it all goes dark, and it does it fast.
Of course, I also have a current loop kill switch just in case.
so i wasn't completely off my rocker...
if you are sending a stream of packets to keep it open.. what is reading the packets.. or does the QM do that?
