Why don't you just report them to the FDA then maybe they'll be put on the customs blacklist until their advice is correct / projectors varianced.

I actually did, long-ago, and yes, again after seeing that 'page'...Wish it were only that-easy to get 'results' out of Enforcement - but, alas, to borrow one of my favorite song-lyrics, it's like, 'try to catch the deluge in a paper cup'.. I'm pretty-sure they're still on the FDA's radar and all, but the FDA is just spread so blinkin-thin these-days, it's all they can do to keep up with much more 'serious' import violaters (bad food, illegal pharms / medical products, lead-tainted painted toys / candy, etc, etc, etc...) Still, we've gotta at least 'try', right?

To me, the whole Regs-issue is like seat-belts - restrictive? Yes. Stupid / pointless, cause 'what are the odds you'll actually get in a crash', etc? Well, I've both seen lots of actual gory car accident-scenes, as a past-EMT, and also, what even a few Watts of *moving* laser light can do to eye-tissue, when focused-down / hit just in the right-spot...And I gotta say, imo, seat-belts / laser-regs are good-practice, but LW's (and scores of others) 'sales at whatever cost' attitude is not...

If a Co. starts-out by encouraging duplicity / making-lite of sound safety-principles, (albeit outdated, equipment-wise...) found by knowing / following the Regs - - where are their customers gonna to go from there? Auto-gravitate to being more-responsible?? That's not what YouTube is 'teaching us'.

Oi, I'm ranting again, aren't I... Off to have me a Guinness and away to sleep...

    cheers...

The three or four volunteers that run ILDA are too busy trying to deal with CDRH and FAA plus their day jobs. I'm glad you have volunteered to become Chairman or a member of the Ethics committee. The ethics committees hands are tied, they cannot do anything unless they receive a formal complaint about a ILDA member. They are about resolving things for the good of the industry, not enforcement. Who has filed the complaint?

You need to read the ILDA articles of incorporation, and see what the rules are. ILDA has a charter, and it cannot just go do what it wants.

ILDA is NOT the NRA of Lasers. They do the best they can, with very limited resources.

You get out of ILDA what YOU put into it! Have you emailed the executive director about your concerns? Asked him what you can do to help?

ILDA did pretty well with a big issue lately. Problem is if they crow about success, and means and methods, the BAD GUYS(tm) get a idea about how ILDA did it.

PS, Have you filed a complaint with the government? If a consumer does not complain about bad or unsafe products, they do not know about them. Its FDA remember? They are complaint driven, back to their beginning in the 1920s with hot dogs with human fingers in them and other issues.

No complaining = The perception that nothing is wrong, by the regulators.

    Steve
yes... "volunteers"... because they do it out of the kindness of their hearts

some of them, maybe, but others, ehh, not so much

Well coming from someone who owned one of them....
It looks great untill you try to add non-laserworld stuff then nothing fits...
This is why I took the case after I found out nothing would fit, gutted it and threw it off the back deck then I droped a 55lb. anvil on it!!!! Felt good too!!!
I still have some stuff from it,but the 473 laser was only doing 25mw. and this was the 500RGB..so after the crystal broke lose..I realined it and now its 85mw max 55 avg.
