Default Dipping my toe in the pool of RGB

On Wednesday I decided to buy the Laser Century 473nm Blue and the 671nm Red from Fluff which will team up with the CNI 532nm Green I have spare at the moment. (God, I can't wait). The powers of them are as follow.

    532nm - 180mw (approx)
    473nm - 135mw
    671nm - 330mw
total power - 645mw (approx). Probably about the 600mw mark at the output window. (one hopes)

I am aware that the red is going to look a little weak due to it being deep in the red reagan so I'm thinking that when I do finally get to start this build the best way to set up the lasers in the projector is to have the red closest to the scanners having only one optic to hit before the scanners.
The order I'm thinking is (working away from the scanners) Red, Blue then Green. Much further down the line I plan to add a second 671nm head to give the the first a boost.

The red and blue both have lab style power supplies and only TTL modulation so I'm going to be asking that really nice guy Rob (Stanwax) to figure out how to convert them to Analogue, and has anyone stripped a Lab power supplie to fit the guts of one within a projector? They are identical to the CNI lab units.

The first thing I'll be doing as soon as the blue and red land is to photograph them with the green including a shot of all three beams converging on one point to see if I get anything like a white spot.

This is going to be a bit of a long winded build as I don't have an enclosure, any scanners, no Dicros and no software, and with money being shared between this and my other money sucking hobby (building a new model railway layout) this RGB build is definitely not going to be complete within a few weeks.

I do have a rebuild project of my laser harp underway now, so keep your eyes open for the photo progress report on this as well.

    Congrats!

I wanna see how those beams look... Make sure you post a plethora of pictures...

    I fully intend to.

    B****cks. Just realised I don't have a fog machine.

    Say Carl;

I agree that you're probably going to need more red, based on the power levels you quoted. 671 nm red is *very* low on the visibility scale. So you might want to consider adding a small amount of 635 nm red to increase the apparent brightness. (50 to 75 mw would probably do it.) Jem has the dichro you'd need for sale right now, if you're thinking about heading that way...

    Hi Adam

The thought of adding some brighter red to the 671 has crossed my mind but this would then kill off the beutiful beam specs I have hence the reason for thinking of a second 671 in the future. But I will keep an open mind. Your idea would be a lot cheaper.

Thanks for the kind offer of the loan of your hazer Karl. Would be better than a fog unit for doing photo's.

If you are going to all the expense of adding more 671 for that tight beam, why not go for one of the new 640s? Very tight and very bright... That's what I'm going to be adding.. Watch this space, I have a beast in the making...

Excellent way to go, add a single HL6385 (150mW/642nm) beam to the 671nm with a cube/dichro and you'll keep the same superb beam spec
