Many of the chinese scanners use a bearing lubricant that stiffens up over time, tell her to grasp the shaft just below the mirror with needle nose pliars and gently rotate the mirror back and forth to free it up, at a small angle at first and then gently work it out to the full angle, stop to stop.

If this is the case, the scanners will not feel CRUNCHY as you rotate the shaft. If they fell crunchy she needs to TALK to DZ or Amanda or some other stocking distributer of scanners right now!

Then scan at a small angle to redistribute the lubricant in the bearing as the scanner warms up.

My chinese pair does this all the time, as they set for months in between use, and if that doesnt cure it its rusted bearing or flakely magnet.

I suspect a large amount of scanners have been thrown out over this!!!

i do have a spare set of cti 6800hp and drivers but she is down in WV.and i'm in cleveland.. she operates a laser and has been doing so for quite some time, but i'm pretty sure she is not a hardware type person.. worst case scenerio is she drives up here and we fix it... between myself, mixedgas and laserguy216 we can fix it like bob the builder... i was hoping someone would give suggestions like steve (mixedgas) or the others did did so she could attempt her own repair or find someone in kentucky she could take it to. She is a super nice girl and i e-mailed her and told her i would help. I told her to come here and sign up... I'm sure she will when she gets my message. Thanks again...

    Default Beam me back

Hey guys! This is Amanda! I live in WV. I'm new to the laser world, but think of my fellow laserist like family. So many people have helped me along the way and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them! Thanks guys! Well, I met with the owner of Neo-Laser last Thursday(April 9th). He said I do need a new set of scanners. I do have a show coming up, so I need to get a new set of scanners/amps and have them installed and tweaked SOON. I have been wanting Cambridge scanners since I ordered my laser back in 2007, but didn't have enough $ to do so. One of the reasons I wanted Cambridge scanners was b/c I could do better raster frames. I <3 raster! Not to mention you can do clearer images and faster scanning. woo hoo!! I'm not a handy girl but <3 editing with my software and creating shows. My laser is my baby! I'm really protective over her! She is all I have and makes me happy! Well, a fellow laserist directed me to onestoplasershop.com. I seen a pair of 6800's that have the EXACT set up of my scanner/amps in my laser. I would love to get 6215's but not sure if they would work. I'm working on a budget, so I need scanners, amps, power, nstallation, tweaking, tunning, and shipping. Well, this is where I stand with my scanner inssue.

    Beam me back,
    AMANDA

Greetings Amanda; I would look at a set of DT40s from the member "DZ". Those are the best bang for the buck and he provides awesome support.

Hi Amanda! Welcome to PhotonLexicon. There are plenty of folks here that share your passion for lasers. Rest assured, you're among friends here.

The 6215's should fit just fine in your projector. The mounting block is only slightly larger than the one for the 6800's. So unless we're talking about a minimalist, shoe-box-sized projector, you'd be OK with either set.

Having said that, the 6215's are going to be more expensive. So depending on your budget, you may want to stick with the cheaper 6800's, or even some of the Chinese copies of the 6800's. (Some of those Chinese scanners are quite good and can reliably scan at up to 50K - albeit at a slightly smaller angle of 6.5 degrees.)

There are a few folks here that would probably be willing to do a turn-key installation job for you, but it's going to take some time to fix, and jsalopeck mentioned that you had a show coming up this week... I'm not sure if there will be time to ship your projector off, have the scanners installed and tuned, and then get the projector shipped back to you in time for the show.

Did you ask either Amanda or Fred at OneStopLaserShop.com if they could do the work for you? (They should be able to give you a quote over the phone.) If not, then you may want to contact David Zurcher (User ID: DZ here on the forum) and see if he'd be willing to quote you a price to do the work. He operates a website (www.dzelasers.com) that you may want to check out as well.

Either way, I hope it works out for you. Longer term, if you've got the time available, I suggest you consider making a trip to North Carolina for the third annual South Eastern Laser Enthusaist's Meeting (SELEM 2009), which will be held over the weekend of August the 15th and 16th in Newton, NC. (Just outside Charlotte.) There are several threads in the Meet and Greet sub-forum that talk about past events... Check it out and see if this is something you'd be interested in. (Basically it's a whole weekend of fun and lasers. We have a 500 seat auditorium all to ourselves!)

My Neo NLSP 250 did the same. I replaced them with ScanPros- they use the same mounting block, cables and connectors on the servo amp boards, so they will drop straight in with very minimal work.

Having replaced a set of Neo scanners with Cambridge 6800s, be warned that the input pupil is about 5mm lower down and not in exactly the same horizontal position on the Cambridge mounting block, which is canted to improve performance. You will need to make a new mount for the scanner block to make it line up. You will also need to replace the connectors on the Neo wiring loom with the ones from the Cambridge connector kit- this involves rather a lot of crimping, so be warned.

The scanner block for the 6800's was canted? I thought only the newer 6215 blocks used the new slant-mount.?.

Yep, the 6800HP "laser show" pack comes with a funky mounting block.
