Default Wayyyy off topic (what else is new)!

Potatoes grown in stacked tires? Anybody here ever done it? Fearing a real disaster this year, we are upgrading the garden. A friend has recommended plating the tators in the ground, then as the leaves grow, you put a tire over the cluster of plants and fill it with earth, then a new crop of tubers is supposed to grow in the new layer, and you can do up to four tires, which means in theory, 4 times the freedom fries, although if Mr Sarcozy keeps going after pirates, we might again here call them French Fries.

I'm told soil pH has to be 5.5-6 , SO has anyone else tried this?

I just got 3 old tires from my car racing cousin. I'm gonna use a sawzall to slice out the whitewalls for more space.

We did it back when i was a kid. Worked pretty good.

I don't think we did it because of ease; we did it b/c my family is in the tire business and we have plenty of scrap.

It is an old trick. They won't grow any deeper than planted, the tire is above the ground and the potatos grow up and over. Either way they grow like mad, my seed potatos have been the ones I should have used earlier... I love the tiny ones in fresh soup, very tasty!

Here is an article I found about it, I have read others but google provided me with this... http://www.homegrownevolution.com/20...-in-tires.html

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

I saw a TV show recently where they made a house from old tyres, so why not grow some spuds in 'em too? It's all about recycling
