Do those vans ACTUALLY detect a tv signal being 'absorbed' or whatever?
I thought they were just a scare tactic to make people honest enough to buy a license. I know a lot of it is done by postcodes/addresses nowadays though![]()

Kinda hard to swallow that they are detecting a Receiving unit (TV)..

The general concensus is that they are a marketing ploy.
The BBC relies on their database of people who have a TV licence compared against electoral registers of occupied property.
If a name appears on the list of occupied properties and not on their database of licence holders they assume guilt (in direct contravention of the long held English belief that a man is innocent until proven guilty).
Then they send out letters telling the occupiers that if they don't have a TV then they must notify the licencing people.
Absolute poppycock.
When I didn't have a TV for a while I used to enjoy filling in the form stating that I didn't have a licence for a dog but I wasn't being pestered by the RSPCA to prove it so I didn't have to tell them anything !
They stopped asking after a while...............![]()
