Yes. possibly way overpriced. But my inspector, responsible for 8 states, would not tolerate 1 mW of beam touching a customer in a venue, unless approved and varianced. FAT BEAM is approved, and no waiting up to THREE (3) months for a variance app to be approved.

What I'm told the inspectors often do to a club that refuses to pull a laser is go to the local health inspector and arrange for the local food license to be suspended. All they had to do is flash a badge and declare a "Adulterated" product was observed to the locals. That hits em in the wallet right now with no paperwork required.
Its a hell of a lot easy then doing the paperwork for a :adulterated: laser product.

Besides, we all know that fatter red beams do a bit better in smoke.

Keeperx, you are hearby admonished and warned to read 21 CFR 1040.1 subchapters H, I, and J cover to cover, and to request a Manufacturers Data Packet with past Advisory Letters from the CDRH and read them cover to cover. You might just learn something.

Then file the paperwork and see how close you get it to what they require in practice vs what it actually says in the regs.

Then buy Sliney D H and Wolbarsht M L 1980 Safety with Lasers and Other Light Sources and read it cover to cover.

Then try to buy Dr David Sliney lunch. He lives near you. You might get a earful.

4.95 has long been a technique to try to slip a demonstration laser product past the cdrh rules that may or may not meet the letter of the law and may result in painful beams entering the eye.

320 uW PER Square Centi Meter per 8 Hour day. OSHA.

2.5 mW per cm^2 squared not to exceed .1 seconds viewing. Its not just the law, its a damn good idea. But nowhere in the rule does it say it is allowed to be a constant repetitive exposure. It says "accidental" exposure.

I have the chauvet scorpion sky, and it works pretty well. It broke the second time i set it up tho. still waiting on repairs.

i dont like the scan rates on it tho, thats part of why im building an rgb projector, for some butter smooth sweeps.
Im thinking about tearing the chauvet unit apart for the diode and using that for crowd scanning, put it in next to standard rgb.

gRGB projector. what do you guys think about doing that?

Its on stepper motors not galvos thats why. You probably have 2 or 3 kps scan speed allied to a jerky stepper action.

Also, some of the projections are quite concentrated. I'd say there's a high risk of retinal burning.

I'm not sure anyone has said either way. Potentially it could be safe because of the type of display it produces (see my post above). However, you need to find out if it's approved and varianced for Audience Scanning as per Mixed Gas's Regulation suggestions. Maybe some US government department could tell you or Chauvet (in writing)?

After watching that video, so much for thinking Norm had brains. One of the key factors my Canadian mentor taught me was distance is your friend. He would be appalled at that point blank solid state system in a apartment. He lived in a warehouse so he could do his test setups, and kept personal viewing to a minimum.
