    Default I've Slipped a Gear

    In more ways then one.

As many of you know I've been struggling with my BP, having set the hospital ER record 2.5 years ago. Well as of last week I was at 100/69, but have to fight hard to maintain that with exercise, diet, and two exotic meds.

The exercise is TREK 7100 hybrid bike. The big honkin heavy B52 of medium range bikes. I ride 17-32 miles a weekend and often 14 miles a evening when weather permits.
Well, just got back from the bike shop where they are shaking their heads in amazement. I just set the record for chain stretch and wear. So loose the chain checker went bonkers. 0 to .4 % stretch is a good chain, I hit a higher then 1 reading, which is off the scale. They are estimating 1100 miles.

How many folks do you know that have worn out a rear gear cassette and a chain in less then 2 years??? And yes, I clean and lube the chain.

lost 79 pounds, 30 more to go. I still don't look like a Adonis... Damn Genetic metabolic BS. Now the doc tells me I may have worn out the old snoz, sinus damage from the exertion and maybe a allergy or long term infection.

118$ in parts and labor. New replacement cost on the bike is up to 399. Damn expensive medicine. However the cost of breaking down 7 miles down the trail in a river valley with no cell is more.

I'm gonna make a plaque with the gear cassette on it.

I've worn out a few chains. I managed to actually snap a link clean off. Not at the pin, but rather at the center of the link. I usually replace/rebuild the cassette on my bike every year.

    And better for you too!

Keep up the peddling there Steve. I already brought my bike back out this spring. Damn hills keep me under 4 miles though. Gonna have to find some flatter ground.

Mine are not well suited to jogging, hence bike, if you set the seat up for a full extension of the leg, its not bad. partial extension of the leg gets painful.

The bike shop guy taught me that trick. Set the seat so high you can barely stand still with one leg on the ground. It hurts at first but is a lot easier in the long run.
