While I think it's a little paranoid, the point is valid. What you put on the Internet is there for everyone to see, not just your friends.

I don't have a Myspace page, I don't have a Facebook page, and my birth date is not registered here, all for privacy reasons. Sure, you can still tell a lot about me from the body of what I post, but you've got to do a lot of reading and sorting to find it. (Unlike a Facebook profile, where all that information is stored in a nice, neat package...)

Well the thing I found interesting is that the investigations dont have to ask questions anymore, you supply it all for them on a silver platter and explain all your friends are who their friends are all their information. They dont even have to work anymore to find out who you are, you eagerly supply them all of your data thinking it is a social site.

    MySpace is the devil...

I got none of them; keep my bidness to myself or atleast don't keep it in digital form. I'm with Adam, you can read my posts and figure a bit about me, I might turn my birthday "on", on the day, but keep it hidden otherwise. No reason to hand that info out, and I see NO reason to have a public profile for the world to see, save, and possibly steal.

I never understood the "social" web site thing. Spending that much time online that you are on a social web site means you are anti-social... You socialize in person.

Well, I put to all registrations false dates and sometimes even names and I lie everywhere I can , but if those blood suckers want to destroy me, it would be so easy anyway...so stop the paranoia, you can't win.

I never put a true DOB on the internet. My Facebook a/c also doesn't have any contact info, no addresses, phone numbers or emails. Everything I put up including my profile is locked down to friends only and I'm not searchable by name either so I'm invisible to anyone who isn't already a friend. Its all about common sense really.

Incidentally, they've just changed their privacy policy so anything you put up is deleted straight away from your account if deleted or your account is closed and within 90 days from all back up servers (delay necessary whilst replacement backups of the site without the info are accrued).

I'm on the fence about this.

Fortunately, I don't have anything notable to hide and no major enemies I worry about, but I don't deny having any sort of online presence is a liability, to a certain degree.

Thing is, if someone wants info about you, all they need is ~$40 (or less), your name and something to verify your ID (address, relatives names etc) and they can get more intimate information including criminal background, credit history and even FOOD PREFERENCES!

if this was to be used in any manner, there are logs on their servers with your connection information, ISP adress and identification, and with that they only need a few clicks to obtain your name, adress, etc.. and any other civil information

internet is TRULY ont the place to worry about privacy, and there should be a disclaimer stating you renounce about it when you use internet

again, paranoļa is waiting us, as living in any organized state or country leads to a full privacy loss

gotta go living with the papus

I do put down my country, and even maybe my city, but I never give out my exact address on anything public like that. Nor do I give out my phone number etc.

I too think those myspace etc type sites are just for people to find you through.
