thats big enough for me and my basement/back yard/small club..[/QUOTE]
Is it really?
Probably not for the club. 30 intelligent lighting fixtures with 500 W metal halides can really ruin your day.

I should have rented the space under my name for advertising.
When I still could have...
Because it was addressed specifically to you, and because your post was rather foolish... Obviously I wasn't cracking on hobbyists that only have a green laser. Hell, that's how I started! How lots of us got started, even! You were just nit-picking again. Part of that passive-aggressive personality we talked about earlier. Why are you putting my name at the end of your sentences?
And yes, too much power can be bad, and a 40 watt pulsed laser under a tent would be *very* bad. Though in that case it still wouldn't be "lame". From the audience's point of view it might be uncomfortable - painful even - but it would nonetheless be very impressive visually. (That doesn't make it right though.)
In my opinion, a 1 watt projector is more than enough for most hobbyists. I've only got about 550 mw of balanced white coming out the front of my projector (and since I'm using 660 nm for red, even that is fairly dim as far as the human eye's brightness response is concerned), yet it looks *really* good in my living room, and pretty decent at most of the Laser Enthusiast Meetings. (Though I will admit that Aaron's new 1 watt Kvant projector kicks my projectors ass all over the place!)
However, as soon as you start doing professional shows, 1 watt is nothing. I worked with a company that did a rave for 2600 people in Atlanta (Tiesto). They had a 3.5 watt Krypton Argon mixed-gas ion laser running, along with a pair of 1 watt yags. This, in a building that was not much larger than the auditorium for SELEM.
Bottom line - once you go pro, you need to go big or go home.
Adam
Edit:
Thank you, Steve. I agree completely.

Just giving you a hard time, Adam.
How many professional laserist are here in this forum..
Current active professionals in the industry.. raise your hand.
This forum is full of people like us.. we are not pros for the most part, everyone here has either built, is building, or wants to build a projector. not many here do large shows on the regular (there are a few). Im not sure why everyone is always talking about going big and going pro.
It seems that there is a disconnect between who is actually here, and how the collective views the group. Don't read too much into that as its more of a impression or felling rather than a well formed opinion, i could be completely wrong... for a change... or yet again...
