Oh yeah, he's fired it several times for shows he's done. But they're not all that practical... 1 hour warm-up time. Massive beam (1 inch diameter) so you can only blank it with scanners. Plus you need huge mirrors, so scan speed is around 8K tops.
But if you need to throw monsterously bright yellow-green beams across the top of an outdoor football stadium, it will certainly fit the bill!
A title you are likely to hold for some time! Although we might have enough power to fire one of Paul's CVL's at SELEM, we don't really have anything safe to aim it at. (Everything inside the theater is out of the question... We'd start a fire in no time.) Outside might be an option, but with the Charlotte International airport being that close, I wouldn't want to chance it. (Even if we did file for an FAA letter.)I'll accept "in operation" for now![]()
Oh yeah, Paul also said that when he uses one of these beasts outside, in addition to notifying the FAA he also has to contact the Air Force Space Command office in Colorado! He gives them dates, times, location, and direction of firing info and they tell him yes or no... (Makes sense when you can put that much power into the sky that enough of it might make it to low earth orbit altitude and cause a potential problem with a satelite's imaging system...)
Adam
how much is that beast going for ?
25k includes design and for 5k more I'll throw in a projector. Search COBRA YAG FOR SALE THREAD FOR PICTURES.
Is this the part where you say..."Why when I can get a wart remover v-burner from......for ........."
What the hell...just for you...20K
And as so not to thread jack...Keeping on the subject...You could take it to CaLEM![]()

Well, based on this thread- and some phone calls, and pm discussion, it would appear that a cvl demonstration would be in order
for the next Flem meet. My schedule permitting- hopefully after August.
We'll need some welding shields and concrete blocks.
BTW, Adam, Quit pushing lasermans buttons. If the poor guy wants to claim record to 43 watts visible dont worry about it.
He probably just bumped his head or something. Besides we have a pool going- - on who will be the next lexicon member to
go off the deep end- Laserman has already been red flagged 3 to 1 , but I didn't pick him- so we'll let him slide for now-
For the record I picked Banthai , the international laser sensation

HEY CLAN!!! I guess you are gonna make me actually turn it up, I was only running at 35 amps (single phase aircooled I might add) I could go to 40 amps and show you at least 60 watts, but I'll hold on to that measley 43 watt record UNTIL IT IS BEAT!!!
OBTW Adam, make sure you make it a 4 day event so he has time to warm up that beastPark the gas cylinder trucks outside. Now all you have to decide is who will bring in the forklift, mine fits in the back of a Yugo.
Ladies and Gentlemen...The record for a single laser at a LEM STANDS at 42.7 watts With photographic evidence
Hey clan...how ya gonna measure that beam...it certainly wont fit into a LaserwizzardOh yeah...I want to see it scanning too!
this is a light show forum ya know
The gauntlet has been thrown DOWN BITCHES!!!

Oh Clan, I found this special CVL laser operators suit on ebay.
Adam, Better start notifying the Galactic Federation that Clan is about to launch his big bad la-Z-er into space and all alien traffic has to be rerouted for the next 6 parcects. Start notification now because at the speed of light we want to notify everyone in at least this galaxy about the demonstration![]()

LMAO Very good. Very good Pat indeed. Finally someone who can enjoy some good humour around here-
LOL
Seriously though, you did mention a good point- I do have to dig out a custom head ( pulsed laser calorimeter ) when measurements are needed.
On some of my largest units ( over 75ish watts ) -I never had a reason or desire to measure output.
Output figures had been determined via unit instrumentation and and extensive daily operational logs supplied
with the units from pervious service.
In Practicality, anything I have over 45 watts has no real purpose in the display arena. I just couldnt pass them up
when they became available.
BTW-
I just picked up Soforene in the pool. He's long overdue for meltdown. One of my favorite posters, but he's just
not pulling his weight anymore. Used to change avitars daily, now if we are lucky- once a week- he's on the verge
Unless olde Laserman looses it LOL
