It costs gas money to haul all that gear to SELEM, I need to pick and choose what I drag out there. I'm already looking at hauling the trailer up and down the mountain. And down with a trailer with no trailer brakes is starting to scare me.

Y'all SELEM locals, Is there a way to avoid the 5 mile hill (don't know what u call it) without driving 200 more miles?

Judging by the connector, I would say it is some kind of telecom laser.

That would be "the gorge", on I-40 between Knoxville, TN and Asheville, NC where it crosses the Pigeon river.

It's 5 miles of 7% grade, twice. Down one side and up the other. Definitely a long haul if you're pulling a trailer, so take it slow if you don't have surge brakes on the trailer.

In the winter they have wrecks along that stretch all the time - many of which are bad enough that they have to close the Interstate.

And no, there's no easy way around it. (Unless you fly.)

Oh, so THAT is what you "flatlanders" call that stretch of road!!

One good thing about traveling it in August -

If it rains, that stretch sucks; but if it snows, it REALLY sucks!!

Which SHOULDN'T be a problem in August....

I always thought that was just a normal road.

I guess born and raised here, nothing to compare it to.

A flat straight road for miles on end......how boring.

How many volts/amps does a lamp like that require?
