If I lived in the US I'd be grabbing this now (if I'd sold my own laser).

Tarm Lasers have Purelight 1 model with 2,900 hours on (albeit putting out 4.2 watts not 3.5 watts) for 3,900 Euros in their sale.

Thats $5,546 for the Purelight 1.

This auctions for a Purelight II.

Only difference is the power which I presume means this lasers probably had more hours on it. That said, if in good condition, its still got to be a good buy for $1,500 surely.

    Hi Al

You do know they're three phase???

If you want to know more about the ins and outs of these try contacting Neil (Chaosillumination). I believe it's the purelight that he has. They are very thirsty lasers both in terms of power and water requirements

However, if you can afford the electricity and have a good reliable water supply they have a lovely white beam

    Cheers

I had an inclining they were 3 phase. I didn't know they were watercooled though.

TBH when I said I would consider grabbing it if I'd sold mine it was little bit metaphorical as 3.5W is really more than I can handle.

If I was going gas I'd consider something more like this (225mw version) (although I'd want a red line as well): http://www.nationallaser.com/laser_systems_800.php

I do think its a bargain though when looked at back to back with the Tarm one.

I went through a phase of wanting a decent sized Argon (or even a whitelight). However, I got over it

    Drawbacks...

Very power hungry (especially three phase)
    Very thirsty if watercooled
Very noisy if aircooled (and I absolutely HATE fan noise)
Quite tempramental as they get older

    Benefits...

    Bl**dy lovely beam characteristics
    Bl**dy lovely colours

All in all I think you're better of with a DPSS rig as a good compramise. However, once bitten by the 'Gas' bug it's like an itch that you just have to scratch

And bloody heavy things to lug around... I have worked with a few big gassers including a 30watt I400 and Chroma 10's... Not for the faint hearted

If I didn't have the boss I would have this thing at home already. I got a real dirty look whn I tried to bring it up casually... If someone is interested and they find out exactly in Florida it is, I am sure we can mount a demo trip between someone here in the sunshine state.

TBH Jem, i haven't really got the gas bug. I know there are huge drawbacks including fragility - I'm not known for my finesse with handling things. I'm not what you call a rig polisher (nearly said tool ). I kind of treat tools as tools if you know what I mean. I'm respectful but I don't molley coddle things, I use them as they're meant to be used.

Problem is I think I've realised, even if I sell the laser I've got for what I'm asking (which is top whack but on a par with other vendors), I'm not going to have enough money to go RGB and being a potential occassional home party user rather than a pro or disco user, I can't justify any more money on this hobby. Whereas potentially I might be able to get a small Whitelight gas and afford a Pangolin FB3 for the same money.

Don't forget you'd also need a PCAOM which would be at least another $1000-$1500. (Or practically free like some lucky bastard I know. )

One other thing that's nice about this gas rig is where are you going to get 3.7W of RGB for $1500 Surely not in the form of solid state. At least not anytime in the near future. Sometimes the pros and cons have to be weighed. I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I had the money.
