    Default 671nm DPSS visibility

I love DPSS lasers because of the beam quality, and low transverse modes but I just tried to video a 500mW 671nm laser (measured average 708mW). The beam is a beautiful deep red but it's getting out there relating to eye response to the wavelength as well as the video response to the wavelength. I couldn't put enough smoke in the air to give a solid beam over a 3 meter distance and it's hardly visible even in a darkened room. The beam is about 3mm, 2.0mrad divergence and a beam quality of 1.5 running TEM00. Oh well I guess I expected it. On the bright side I'll be videoing a 400mW 457nm in a week or two. That will show better on a video.

I happen to be using a 250mW 671nm Red in my RGB projector and I really love this colour. I would never give it up. I am planning to add 150mW of 642nm Red in a few weeks so I hope to have the best 400mW of Red in town.

Are you throwing down the gauntlet for a challange young sir ?

Very soon I hope to have added 350mW of 642nm to the ~430mW of 659nm from my dual Maxyzmodule, this will be acheived using the custom Semrock dichro... there's just been a slight technical hitch so it's announcement is slightly delayed

    Cheers

I have a 1.2w 671nm and still very poor for beam shows, great for graphics, about 8 months back i added a 400mw 640nm and the colours are great,

But, you can never have enough red, so i have sent the 400mw 640 away in trade for a 1 watt, maybe even a 1.2w 640,

and while the projector is in bits, i thought it would be a good idea to add a 1 watt 445nm to my 800mw 473, still got to find the best one yet,

    Hello!
You canīt couble 642 + 658nm diodes with the semrock dichro. Just I tried it, and the losses with that are horrible

Did you try to angle tune it? You will need to try some severe angles but you should be able to make it work; severe on both lasers; reflect AND transmit...

Err... I beg to differ, it's all about angle tuning. There is a VERY sharp cutoff, you have to get the angle EXACTLY right. Don't expect to be setting everything at right angles that just will not work.

I will see if I can persuade 'the enlightened one' to proffer clues as to how he acheived it

I was at Robs' (Stanwax's) a few weeks ago and it worked very well when he demonstrated it, but the dichro angle was critical. When moving it very slowly; the beam was litteraly hiting point where it would flash bright then go dark again.

I believe it was Jem's freshly delivered 640.

Pah... You've let the cat out of the bag now , I was hoping to build up the suspense before giving the game away
