hey all...

this is the second time i *MIGHT* have to do this. but my brother has taken a turn for the worse. they actually just found what they think are 2 more tumors in his brain about 3-4 weeks ago. at first they were calling them "lesions." but thats also what they called the last 3 that they found. it turns out they are indeed tumors as of yesterdy. he was rushed into the hospital yest morn for some seizures and they confirmed the worse.

my father just got out of his 2nd surgery last week for his cancer (renal cancer. a tumor on his kidney was removed). he is not able to do be any help with my brother until he is back on his feet. so it leaves me and my mom (who has 2 more weeks left of HER treatments for breast cancer). this week is NOT going to be a good week with our family.

we knew my brother was bad and terminal with the cancer. but we DID NOT expect anymore goddamn tumors!!!

i will make my final decision later this afternoon (monday aug 10) as to whether i can take the trip to NC. in all honesty, it isnt looking very good.

if i cant make the trip, i will STILL send the door prizes i committed to. would make me feel somewhat good knowing you guys are at least havin some fun and i think these prizes will be valuable to some of you.

also, if anyone knows that they will want or need any products that anyone else might not be bringing, please feel free to let me know. i wil send it to adam also. (if he doenst mind obviously).

this REALLY sucks guys! and i am truly sorry. this little trip is QUITE a fun time for me. and even if it was for only 2 days, it really helped clear my head last year also.

but in the last day and a half, things have gotten pretty bad. i actually may have to start making the "final arrangements" and contacting our extended family to come say their goodbyes. this is NOT a fun time for me.

my apologies for posting this much detail and being "debbie downer", but i wanted you all to know that this is a decision that doesnt come easily for me. i REALLY enjoy coming and seeing you photon geeks! but i have QUITE a situation that i have to be with my family for.

That is horrible news. It sounds like you are in a very bad place right now. I have always said family comes first. I am sure that everyone here agrees and understands why you may not be able to make it. It is very kind of you to still provide door prizes.

That's really terrible news, Marc. But as everyone here has already said: Family comes first. We all understand that. Much as we'd love to have you at SELEM, it sounds like you've got much more important matters to attend to. Rest assured, you'll be in our thoughts.

Hey people! Quick update:

Justin (the new guy at Pangolin) will be able to attend SELEM after all! I just got word this afternoon that he and Bill were able to work out the arrangements. (Woot!)

We're going to have to give Justin a special welcome at the Artist's Cafe on Friday... I'm thinking about letting Aaron order him one of those waterfall drinks to test his manual dexterity...
