Hi Bill;
You're right. I shortened that to just "BEYOND" in my post, but I do remember you mentioning that it would only be the 3D portion. And yeah, I guess that will make that presentation quite a bit shorter. I should have taken that into account.
I agree. But I'd much rather over-budget the time (30 min to an hour) and have extra time left over than have to go through what we did last year.In most cases, the presentations that I have, are already ones that I have given at ILDA. As such, these presentations are tuned to take around 15 minutes each, not 45 or longer. However, I do anticipate -- especially from SELEM attendees -- that there will be a lot of questions about each topic, and thus this could extend the time.I don't ever want to have to do that again!
This bears repeating. Bill was concerned from the start that I was asking him to present too much information, and that it might seem that he was "hogging" the time. But the bottom line is that there are a lot of people who will be attending SELEM who are *very* interested in all these topics. (Especially LASORB and QUICKSHOW) I *ASKED* Bill to present all these topics, so if anyone is hogging anything, it's me hogging Bill's generosity to speak.When I originally wrote to Adam about this, I specifically stated that I did not want to "hog the floor".
I like this idea, but I think the show of hands should be done before hand, as it will make things easier to set up during the load-in. I'll start another thread for this in a moment... EDIT: Thread is here!What we could do is have a "show of hands" from the attendees about each topic. If the majority of attendees want to hear about a particular topic, then I suppose we can hear about that topic in the auditorium. If it turns out that a particular topic is "on the fringe", and relatively few want to hear about it, then I suppose that topic can be presented in a smaller room.
That sounds fair!
Thanks. It's a fine line to walk, and I've misstepped a few times already. Trying really hard not to do that again this year.I think Adam is doing a great job trying to coordinate eveything, and puts a lot of effort towards making sure everyone gets a chance to participate.
Are you saying we shouldn't have any presentations in the auditorium, or that we should keep them to a minimum (as selected by simple majority?)the draw of the SELEM venue is the fact that is is such an AWESOME venue to run laser shows (especially multi-projector beams) and gives us the opportunity to enjoy our time & financial efforts in ways we might not experience anywhere else.
I don't remember that, but you may be correct. A *lot* has changed about this year's SELEM in just the past 2 weeks. We invited 6 guest speakers. Only 2 of them are coming. So yeah, things have been in a state of flux for some time now. (Which is another reason why I've been pulling my hair out lately!)
But if you do want to present something on ILDA SOS or the FlexDrives, I'll add your name to the list of presentations in the "show of hands" vote thread referenced above and we'll see what comes of it. If there is enough interest, we can do it in the auditorium. If there is a little less interest, but still some interest, then we'll set up DocJohn's portable PA system in the lobby and block out a time for you to present there. Sound fair?
That was pretty cool last year, but if we're running a bunch of beam shows, it's going to be hard for Andrew to be talking about his software... Sure, there is always quiet time in the mornings before things get rolling, but once they do get rolling, trying to stop things is just asking for a mutiny!
This is one thing that is already more or less planned. I wanted to have an area set aside where people can set up things they'd like to sell. I'm thinking either in the Lobby or in the backstage hallway. (The long one that runs past the dressing rooms.) I'd hope that we're all good enough friends that we wouldn't have to worry about anyone stealing anything. So we could set out our stuff with price tags on everything, and if someone wants something they come find the person selling it.And maybe have some of your laser modules up for sale strategically located...![]()
Whatcha think?

That sounds cool. I have been to many swap and shops in the past where the tables have been unattended and no problem. I plan to do that. Label all prices and leave a box for payment or see the seller with a counter offer. Dickering is fun.This is one thing that is already more or less planned. We just need a bouncer at the door like EVIL to keep the street people out.

Oh crap, this is just over a week away. I should probably build my laser projector I suppose... (Making something portable so I don't have to pay $1,000,000 to fly with it like last year.)

Actually, my comment was meant as a reminder due to some fallout from past events, and as a heads up to first-time attendees...
I think the draw for most of us really is the opportunity it presents to put on some kick-ass shows and "full-scale demos" (i.e. last year's LivePro demo) that could only be appreciated in a venue at least the size of the one we have in SELEM. However, admittedly, an endless stream of Pangolin-driven multi-projector shows may not be for everyone!!
Also, the presentations are a great opportunity, but all will not have the same appeal to everyone. That's why I think the show of hands / majority rule is such a great idea. For the presentations where less than a majority want to attend, both groups could continue to participate in whatever activity they are interested in for that particular block of time, with the stage area available for those who are most interested in shows, etc., while the other groups could still carry on with their presentations.
I think that makes 30-cents worth total now...![]()
