Smile FLEM ver 7 wrap up

Wow! What a fun event we had! I didn't get much sleep, but it was worth it... I think this is the first time I've been at the venue until 2:30 in the morning for both Friday night *and* Saturday night!

Big thanks to everyone who brought their equipment. 8 whitelight projectors is quite an accomplishment for an event that was thrown together so hastily - to say nothing of the other projectors, pointers, and other equipment we had there! (If you're wondering which RGB(/V) projectors I'm counting, we had mine, DZ's, Astroguy's, Yobresal's, Daedal's, Allthatwhichis', DJMatt's, & Lazerjock's, though we never had more than 6 running at once.)

Also a big thanks to Aaron, Cathy, and Matthew for sticking around to help me pack up on Saturday night, and to Fred and Dee, who came back on Sunday morning to help me clean up the venue, set the tables back up, and take out the trash. Everything looks great now, so I'm sure we won't have any problems with the boat club people.

I think the highlight of this event was getting multiple projectors synchronized using Pangolin's .net software. Seeing 6 RGB projectors all playing the same beam show in *perfect* sync was truly awesome! We have *got* to do this again for SELEM this summer.

Unfortunately, Clandestiny was unable to resurrect the hulking CVL that he bought recently, but it does appear that in time he'll get it going. (Best guess is a very small vacuum leak, as everything else is OK.) Big thanks to everyone who helped move that big laser in and out of the venue. (What a monster.!.)

LazerJock's home-made rum was certainly a hit, as we ran out of it around 5 in the afternoon on Saturday! ( Might want to bring two bottles to SELEM, Chris!) DZ was able to impliment a working ILDA interlock loop on DJMatt's projector, which was very cool. And Cat showed up with 15 sq yards of thick black fabric that worked wonders to block out the light from the windows. We'll definitely be using that stuff next time!

Daedal had the new projector he built for Yobresal, and it was very nice. Compact, lightweight, and quite powerful! It actually gave Aaron's KVANT projector a run for it's money! I'm sure Yobresal will enjoy it - assuming that Mo is willing to let it go now that he's seen it running! This was also the debut of DJMatt's projector, and it is most impressive. About the only real problem is that it weighs about 120 pounds! Well, maybe not that much, but close! Still, some fine work there Matt!

I think WolfBlue is hooked now. He's already talking about buying scanners and a DAC! Will be interesting to see how that build progresses.

And of course, the big surprize was the phone call from Richard (Soforene) in the afternoon. He was in attendance at the UKLEM and wanted to call us to link the two events! Cool idea! It was night time in the UK when he called, and they already had their barbeque fired up. I remember he told us to "turn the fookin' music down", probably because it sounded like crap over the live feed.

But honestly, we had the music rather low at the time (because we were still trying to get the CVL working at that point). At other times, however, the music was *deafeningly* loud. I mean, I really like loud music, but when we played the Metallica show on DZ's projector with the volume turned up, I seriously worried about loosing my hearing. (And we still had a little headroom left on the amps!) SELEM is going to be awesome, I tell ya!

So thanks again for everyone who helped make this event happen. I had a lot of fun, people! But now, I need to get some sleep....

Oh my God! That was fun!!! It sux I couldn't be there earlier/longer. This really makes me look forward to SELEM that much more.

Did we mention we had 2 birthdays at FLEM this time around?

Chris... Thank you for the excellent rum sir Now that you are literally 2 minutes from my house, I've got a fellow laserist nearby to plan frequent mini-LEMs with

DZ... as always, a pleasure to see you and to tap into your vast knowledge and intelligence. I look forward to spending much more time with you.

Matt... That projector is killer man! I dunno what to say about it. It's beautiful and stunning. It's EXTREMELY HEAVY too! I couldn't lift the thing off the table!! Your music has proven addictive by the way

Cathy... It's a pleasure to meet you and spend time with you again. My GF had a blast thanx to you. I really owe you big time. (I did make her breakfast and lunch today! ) Also a very happy birthday from us again

Aaron... I have to admit, your music collection is excellent! Not a match for Matt's, but close You should start coming up to Orlando more often now that Chris and I are tipping the scales towards Orlando

Paul... bummer that CVL didn't fire up last night. I would have loved to vaporize that Mt.Dew bottle that was right in front of it (yes, I worried about that all night ). I'll have to pass by once you get that baby up and running some time Did I mention that thing was heavy? It was so damn heavy it took 6 men to move the sucker!

Fred and Dee... always a pleasure to see you guys again. Thank you very much for the kind gift. It will come in handy many time, and earn you praise every time it does! Happy birthday again Dee from us here

Wolfblue... from what I've seen in worksmanship in your 'portables', I'm expecting some outlandish brilliance in your projector. I am really looking forward to seeing what new gadgets you'll bring to future meets

Adam... Thank you I do not think FLEM would be functional without you around.

Default Was it worth the long drive?

It was SO worth the drive. Matthew and I just got home about 45 mins. ago. I would spend my birthday with you all again. How can I say thank you enough to DZ for helping Matthew. The laser shows were so AWESOME. There were new people there, some I didn't get a chance to really meet........but there will be other times. I still ask many questions and these guys keep answering. I did get a good lesson in how to do a laser show watching ALLTHATWHICHIS. His way is really unique.
Mo, thank you for bringing someone for me to talk to. I hope I didn't overdo that. She's a very special person. You, I so enjoyed talking to, I asked you a thousand questions.
Adam, you remind me of the Dunkin Donut guy who used to the commercials............in the one he finally started passing himself in the doorway from "it's time to make the donuts." You may be helping on something but you can be holding a conversation with about 3 different people at the same time. Never a dull moment.
I'm glad I meet you all and I wouldn't trade you for anything. Thank you so much for the birthday cake, even had my favorite color purple and of course, chocolate.
My absolute favorite was the beam show with all the lasers going. It was good to see Matthew's laser doing what he wanted it to do.
Thanks again for letting me a part of it. I am truly looking forward to SELEM.

All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!
It was great to meet everyone. I can't wait for SELEM.

Adam thank you for everything, especially tuning my amp. By the way I figured out why all 5 of my diodes popped. The default color output in Spaghetti is negative when run through the sound card amp. I fed a -5v signal to all the diodes. This was easily fixed and I was scanning last night.

I will bring more rum to SELEM. For FLEM I was running a little low or I would have brought more.

Mo we need to definatally get togother more often. Thanks again for the diodes.

I can't say enough about you people. You are all so friendly and willing to help.

Thank you for making me feel welcome.

    Wink

    Aye !

And as for 6 synced projectors ...pfffftt.
I was running 5 all by myself.

Well, I was till one decided that 2 hours use was quite enough (for a chinese laser) and decided to have en epileptic fit.

Not to worry though cus it was rushed to Stanwax Memorial Hospital for Tired Lasers and I'm fully expecting "Rikkle Stan" to make a full recovery.
