Thumbs down 70% Power Loss Through Scanner Mirrors....

    Okay Guys,
Figure this one out. So, I've been working on getting my blue properly running in my projector and my power out is just plain wrong.... I initially thought I had a bad dichro. ( 60mW with dichro.) But I have now ruled that out by putting a mirror in place of the dichro. (A nice one made by Melles Griot.) So, I get 240mW out of the 473 DPSS before optics and A WHOPPING 70mW AFTER THREE FREAKING MIRRORS!

What the hell is this? The mirror in the mount is brand new, just removed from the factory package. And the galvo mirrors are pristine. No scratches or dust. Where the heck is all this power going?

Now, even stranger, it's just blue. Both 650 and 532 exit with very little loss. Like 2%.

I'm completely baffled by this one. Sure they are laserworld scanners/mirrors. But they can't make mirrors that eat 473..... Or can they?

Thanks for listening to my rant.
    Adam

It's got to be the mirrors... I got a pair of scanners for sale also... Test after each mirror/optic; you may have to rotate the filters for polarizations optimization. You shouldn't have to but you might.

Looks like you are right Aaron. I loose 30mW off of the Melles mirror alone. Are all scanner mirrors this bad with 473 or is it just me? I can't afford to buy new scanners yet but, it looks like I will need to replace the mirrors. Anyone selling broadband scanner mirrors that WILL handle 473?

I have replacement DT mirrors, but they are .8mm, looking at the pic, I don't think the mirrors you have are .8mm, I may be wrong though. You can try them if you like, they are pretty cheap for a pair.

    Question

Did you clean the dichro? It had been sitting around here for a while collectng dust and "fog" residue.

    Hey David,
I just checked with my calipers and they are a bit thinner than .8mm. More like .5mm but I don't want to crack them with the caliper (Even though they are GARBAGE! ) I guess I may have a hard time mounting thicker mirrors in the groove of the shaft..... Darn!

EDIT: Just checked again, they are .6mm.

Yeah, but this is just their scanners! Not a whole projector. I guess they can't even get that right!

I could see that kind of loss with a deep wavelength like 405 but come on,,,, 70% It's almost unreal.

    Hi Adam

I have the same problem: I lost around 40% of power.
Your scanners seem to be Laserworld LW-45kps or LW-50kpps: I have three of them inside my projectors

Just yesterday I finished to refurbish my old RGY projector.
I changed the weak green diode (64mw) with another one, little more powerful (100mw)

As you can see here my red @650nm gives out more than 440mw

    http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...&postcount=165
(don't take a care of green measure, 'cause there is another green inside now)

    So...440 + 100 = 540mw of yellow (around)

Well... Do you guess how much I measured after galvo's mirrors???????
    Only 324mw !
A damn RGB dichro and another couple of damn mirrors take 40% of total power off!
Dichro seems to be ok..... 434mw red reflected of 440mw and 96mw green transmitted of 100mw.
    Then... mirrors are rubbish mirrors!

    Is it correct?

Anyway today I'll repeat measure, for more safety (and personal satisfation...)

    2.6 W (655/532/450) 30kpps
    2.5 W (638/532/450) 30kpps
    0.7 W (test unit)(635/532/473) 18kpps
