I had a run in with them when they thought i was selling complete laser systems.

As far as i know (and i may be wrong) there is nothing illegal in a flashlight with a custom heatsink and a constant current driver....

i've browsed my way through the regulations for lasers a few times...it's a big maze of jumbled up information that i personally find hard to sift through.

so if anyone has a clear understanding of the laws surrounding this kind of thing i would really love to know

Man, you dont live in Ohio or NJ . Local hardware stores in Ohio have signs up reserving the right to view a ID and give a customer list to the local sheriff for solvents,.

In NJ, they are in locked cages, like the spray paint is at home depot. And if you selling a flashlight, call it a flashlight. Your post said laser.

Anyways, i am not selling a laser, i am selling a kit of components that people use to build one, whether that laser is <5mW or not, and whether they ensure it complies to the FDA's regulations on lasers is their responsibility, not mine.
