    hi!

they are not polarized, but you have to pay attention to the colour of the mirror's facets, as the colour will reflect what you see like I said earlier

the angle is also important, but most of them are optimized for a 45° angle

be prudent with araldite as I think this glue may deposit a white layer on the mirror's surface

One thing you might consider is to buy some 'First Contact' optic cleaner and carefully coat both sides of the dichroics before gluing them into place - this will help to restrict the glue to the edges, where you want it, and will protect the surfaces during any handling; the First Contact can then be peeled off with sticky tape once the glue is dry. Be aware that any epoxy contamination on the face of a dichroic filter will ruin it!
(It's worth buying some First Contact at some point anyway, it's the best way to keep your dichroics and mirrors clean without causing any abrasive or solvent damage.)

    See http://www.photonlexicon.com/forums/...=first+contact for more details.

What a co-incidence... got a package from dhl today with some pass green reflect red, pass green/red reflect blue and a bounce mirror. So i'll be doing the same stuff as you and hopefully not getting glue on the mirror surface....

ugg, nasty flashback, the last time used DHL i got told that my package has been placed in the unclaimed goods section then disposed of, at one point the DHL representive was crying down the phone line. It's a terrible thing to hear that your uninsured 7 color laser projector was gone and there
was little to be done about it.

i swore never to use DHL again, the funny thing is in N.Z DHL and UPS have the same hold music ,so i suspect there the same company here. Even so i've never had the same problems with UPS i had with DHL. And for some reason UPS is more expensive. Still i gladly pay it, it's a terrible expirence to have to listen to a grown man cry over the phone.

    cheers

Apparently UPS sort packages (all their packages) by dropping them from 3 foot from a chute onto a carousel!

On a side note, do you know if Flying pictures are still in business over there ? it's been some time but I worked for them waaaay back in the day. *sigh* those were the days, endless hot summers, gas lasers moving lights and pyros. not to mention the smoke! (machines )

Kiwi you lucky guy... ah well. I may have got to meet him when I was much younger at a display down in New Plymouth, They'd stacked containers about 3 high and had tarps. They had had a reasonably grunty water cooled whitelight, got shown the full tour of the laser, beam table etc - they even (quickly) cut through a PET bottle head to show me how powerful it was. That and seeing the greenies they had shooting off into the sky at Christmas in the park, also seeing laser animations at the Aoetea centre many years ago has to be what got me the 'laser bug'...

On a side note... my mums car is still frozen and most of our back lawn is white!

WTF, I knew they were incompetent but that incompetent..... damn. Have heard of many horror stories, that'd be one of the top! I can't believe that happened, absolutely ridiculous and I'm sorry to hear that

I heard this also a while back, then hit up youtube and saw packages getting 'kick sorted' in trucks. I'd had loved to have seen them 'kick sort' my RGB flight case... 'cus it would have hurt

Gashead re: flying pictures: what Kiwi said, heard they split and individuals now own the spoils. I gotta figure out who has the 20W whitelights - they would definately be something cool to work with, look at on or off (now that i'm a full on laser freako) or own in the future if fate somehow ended up as such.

    Cheers,
    -Tristan

I should of mentioned in my story about DHL that the laser did turn up a couple of days later and DHL offered a NZ$100 reduction in their charges.

I think the worst freight story has to go to my swiss friends at "Laser world", it cost me 230 euros (NZ$550) to get a box half the size of a shoe box sent to N.Z., thats was after i begged them to reduce the charges and they grudgingly gave a 50 euro discount otherwise it would of been 280 euros.

to add insult to injury the freight cost was over the point that our goods and services taxs applys so
i then had to pay NZ$550 plus 12.5% tax on top for a total of NZ$613.00 to get a DVD case, dongle and 100mW green laser here.

If i had'nt of asked for the discount it would of been NZ$715 freight plus tax for a 2kg package.

Next time i brought something off them, i had it sent to the U.K where my mother in law lived and she posted it to me for a fraction of the cost.

I sent the same box to china to return a failty product and it cost NZ$17.50 or around 8 euros

When ever i think of Laserworld i think of "coke and hookers"

Muhahahahahaha - I worked with Barry (And Bart and Jeff ) for a few years when I was quite a youngin, learnt all I know from Barry. Awsome guy (Bit grumpy) (but still my hero) (wrote me a great reference).

Find it hard to believe they demo'd cutting through a bottle for you, I saw a young chap get fired and told never to come back when he lit his fag off a terminated straight beam at "Symphony under the stars" in the domain.

I do miss those days.. a lot. best time of my life!
