Default setting up scanlsp 20k kit

this is my first scanner so please excuse the noob questions...

i got a scanner kit(scanlsp20) from lasershowparts.com and just got it today. it came with a dmx board, 2 galvos, 2 scan amps, power supply and cables.

when i power it on the galvos act like they stick up..is this what its supposed to do? i dont have a db25 connector on either of my comps so i cant really test it out yet... any help pointing out something i may have missed is appreciated.

    "act like they stick up???"

im confused!?!?! do you mean they kind of "jump" to a position? if so, yes...that is normal. that is their home position. when these are in the mount, and powerd on, this is the position that you would want the beam to be coming out at "0" position. (most of the time straight out. no elevation up or down. and no left to right angle)

The DB25 connector which used to come standard on every computer is not the connection you are looking for! That DB25 was either a serial or parallel port. What you can hook up to your scanners is a DAC which by coincidence uses the ILDA standard connector, which is the DB25...
If you hook it up to your computer without a DAC in between then for sure it will not work!

You'll want to align everything with the galvos powered up and in their home position. Obviously if you align the galvos with them powered down, when you power up everything will be wonky..

If the problem you are experiencing with these scanners is the galvos hard slamming against the end stop; the driver board is probably toast.

Happend on a set of Laserworld "20k" scanners I had in a cheapo projector, I believe it is actually the very same scan set re-badged.

ok so dave has helped me get through troubleshooting getting it set up and now im in the process of trying to align them... whats the best position(if the galvos are in the home position) for the beam to exit? would it be straight out level with the beam from the laser itself?

p.s. where can you buy extra mirrors? i broke the 2 on the galvos due to hand slippage... luckily it came with another set..

heres a vid of it while i was trying to align it..
