    Default SELEM Food Thread

Yeah, even geeks can't live on alcohol alone. So, we gotta eat sometime.

Buffo said---So far Bill and Chris will be bringing down Lasagna and Garlic Bread. How much y'all bringing?

He also indicated there will be ~25-30 peeps.

Is there a kitchen at the venue or at least a place to warm/serve food?

For 25-30 people, I can either smoke several pork butts or maybe a couple of whole shoulders. Coupled with the lasagna, there should be plenty to eat especially if a couple more folks make their special......cough **ribs 300, ribs** cough (just pulling yer chain. understandable if you are flying).

Even if my work schedule sucks, I can still make it sometime on Saterday. Only a 4 hour drive for me.

    So.

I got the pulled pork and buns. Does anyone want slaw on/with their BBQ? If so, what kind; vinegar based or mayo based? Any other requests?

Anyone else in driving distance up for bringing food?

    Mmmmmm..... Laser/Food network.

I'll be bringing ~ 4 gallons of home-brew beer to go with lunch. I'll also have a large sheet cake that I'll bring up from Charleston. (Chocolate cake with chocolate mouse filling and chocolate icing sound OK to everyone? )

Maybe someone can spring for paper plates and plastic cups?

There is a kitchen, but I'll need to re-think the 220V power supply to the stage if we're going to use the stove. (We usually pull the wires on that stove breaker and hook into it to supply extra power to the stage.)

But worst case I can always pick up a spare 60 amp breaker and disable some other ciruits that we won't need so I can drop the big breaker in place. Just need to make sure I get the right style. (Pretty sure it's a GE panel, but I remember that the breakers were captive... That is, they have a screw holding them in. Need to find a supplier for those somewhere...)

I won't need a stove. Better to reroute the power for lasers . Toasted buns are nice but not necessary.

I was more concerned with a sink, fridge and a little space to prep the meat. As you know, pulling fresh cooked pork can be a tiny bit messy. Just trying to figure out what I needed to bring food prep wise.

30 people. I'm going to figure 15-20 Lbs of finished meat. May cook more and bring zip-loc bags. It's the same amount of time to smoke 1 pork roast or 10. Opinions?

That's a lot of meat! But who am I to argue, right?

The kitchen at the venue has a fridge and a sink. No problem using either one. They even have a little counter space. Not a huge kitchen, but it will do. (Think about the kitchen in your average 2 bedroom apartment and you've got the idea.)

Don't you worry. If there's any extra meat, I'll just eat it and solve the problem right there.

Awrighty then. 15-20 Lbs of meat it shall be.

I feel my meat stands for itself, well, a little Lousanne hot sauce but is there any request for BBQ sauce (Please Jesus, Heaven forbid......)

Vinegar or Mayonaise based slaw? I'll make a poll after dinner.

Lasers get me excited but I *Love* feeding people.

    Thumbs up plates

I can do that Buf Do we need plastic wear to eat with? How about paper towels and or napkins?

Anyone heard of Anna Mays sweet (not) chipolte barbeque and grill sauce? I get it by the case. Can bring a bottle of that.

Doug, it is good on anything. I don't know about on cole slaw though

Awright John, bring a few bottles of the sauce, sounds good to me. There is a running joke at my house, especially when guests come over. If they even mention {insert sauce name here}, I pretend to be all pissed off because the meat should speak for itself. It's really nothing more than some good times and smack talking.

Thanks for the plates offer. Get some heavy ones that will hold 1/2lb meat with the fixings and maybe some plastiware. I'll get paper towels cause i'll need a couple rolls anyway.

Should I do baked beans too, or can someone else get that?

C'mon y'all, youns are going to be eating this slop.....Speak up!!!

    Oh. One more thing......

Does anyone have an aversion to pig? Should I do some chicken too?

    Thumbs up

Wow Doug, way to step up to the plate! (er, no pun intended...) You're really doing us all a huge favor though. Between you and Bill (and his wife Chris), it sounds like we're going to have a feast!

So, DocJohn's got the plates and utensils covered... I've got dessert covered... Does anyone want to volunteer to bring a side dish that would go well with smoked pork and Lasagna?
